Bolshevik Junkers D.1
« on: 14 November 2008, 06:05:35 PM »

"Comrade pilot Yuri Gagarin, grandfather of the famous cosmonaut, of the 1st fighter detachment, Southern Hydro-Aviation Battalion, Red Navy, Eastern Caspian front, prepares to take off to duel with White, British and Adrianstani fighter formations in The League of Extraordinary Kriegspielers recent epic, 'Holy War!'

Model by Roden (1/48), built and painted by me.  Decals by Blue Rider, figures by Copplestone, painted by Steve Dean (including the pilot)

Enjoy!

As the other said you did a really good paint job on this plane!  :-*

I was wondering if 1/48 planes weren’t too big for 28mm.

Judging by the photo, I think they fit pretty well together.  ::)

Yes, I've noticed that too. Even cars and the like look fairly reasonably sized for 28mm minis.

very nice!

Some to remind you that when Mark Copplestone released the pilots, announced that they fit well in 1/48 planes! Do mark's minis are larger than usual/official term that 28mm are 1/56!

I took a second look at the marvellous photo and I discovered that the guy (I think he carries a rifle) in the back,  beside the hangar and before the backdrop, really has the correct colour insignia. [sky blue for airforce]

Bravo fantastic work!

Looking forward to see the pics from the game!

Jings Argsilverson, you're good!  I wouldnt have known that!

Re vehicles, buildings and planes in Back of Beyond, I prefer the first two to be on the smaller side, i.e. not true 28mm, as vehicles in particular look fine in 1/72, and as I like a lot of them on the table I dont want them to take up too much space.  Planes however look great and there are few of them, so true scale works perfectly.

Thanks for all the kind comments

Ignatieff,
I just want to second Argsilverson in that there are many of us waiting with great anticipation for the reports of your groups adventures in Central Asia. In my mind you fellows set the standard that we all want to meet, particularly in regard to the convoluted and %^$# interesting ongoing relationships and humerous scenarios presented.  Even so, we are happy to have even a few great photos like this, bravo!

Ignatieff, sorry to spoil you marvellous tale.
Yuri Gagarin the cosmonaut, was born on 1934. Your tale is around middle/end 1920's so I am afraid that your pilot could not be cosmonaut;s grand father. I suggest to be his uncle!
Sorry, again.

This post has no meaning at all! it's only to show you that the period is not so far away from us. By the way cosmonaut's father name was Alexei and his grandfather;s name was Ivan [if I translated well the russian names]

The rest: marvellous, beautiful,outstanding etc
