Andalusians using Gripping Beast's Arab figures
« on: October 14, 2015, 06:41:36 AM »
I painted some of those HaT Andalusian light horse in 28mm not too long ago and enjoyed it, but I was ecstatic when I heard that Gripping Beast was doing Arab plastics! Of course, they would need some conversion to become Andalusian, but they would be much easier to convert than the Gripping Beast Dark Age Warriors I was originally planning to use! So, I picked up a few boxes... and then held on to them for about a year and a half, and now I'm finally getting to them!

This one is a conversion using the head of hte Conquest plastic Norman Knights. I also sculpted on the chain mail and the edge of hte coat that covers it. I'm pretty happy with it. It will be the captain of the spearmen unit when it's done.

This one is a conversion, using the slinger hand form the GB dark age warrior box, and I cut off the belt knife and sculpted on the bag.

This one is also a conversion using the GB Dark Age Warrior slinger hand, and a head from either the Viking warrior box, or the Dark Age warrior box... And also the dagger was removed and a pouch added. Why a viking in an Andalusian army you ask? Apparently there were a lot of 'slav' slaves in Andalusian armies of this period. However, 'slav' was a misnomer, they were actually norther Europeans: vikings, germans, franks. So, I decided to paint this guy as an unlucky raider working off his slavery!

Thanks
n

Wonderful paintwork as ever. Love the guy in green. And the shield designs  :-*

I'm afraid I think the figures themselves are pretty poor, but your painting has certainly brought them to life. Well done  :)

Just a quick suggestion but have you looked at Saxon Miniatures?

For your enemies there's a great set of Spanish that could be used as Armoured Peones/Mercenaries for both sides and even Dismounted knights:

http://saxonminiatures.com/product/castillian-armoured-infantry/

Mt Patten also has some great Berber/Black Guard sculpts available now that would make great Mercenary troops for either side:

I'm going to be using some of the Black Guard in my Ayyubid armies for the Third Crusade. hopefully there will be a command pack available and some personalities for both protagonists(?)

Darrell.
