Haha, I finished the stuff
I finally went on the easy path and just used a little foamboard:





I replicated the effect I used for the first vignette, i.e., checkers and stone:





I had a problem, as the standard bearer is stomping a stone. In order to solve that, I improvised a Genestealer corpse :



So the vignette finally looks like this:

I've been suggested that I should have gone through the marble approach rather than stone, and I tend to agree, that's the kind of stuff you only realize when the work is done . Maybe I come back to this again, maybe... But for the moment I declare this done
