Lord Macragge (revisited)
« on: October 19, 2015, 10:57:19 AM »
I got to set a vignette with the classic Lord Macragge mini some time ago (you can find it here)

(If you are half the lazy I am, you may prefer the actual pic rather than clicking above :D):

But then I got the latest edition of the Space Hulk game, which includes this:

OK, a great objective marker, but by now you may suspect I'm heading towards another idea... ;)

So first thing was removing blood drops and stuff:

Then some greenstuff work and the delicate issue of finding the right bits. I sadly realized I didn't have any right handed power fist, so I finally used this one from Space Crusade:

At that point I got blocked. Not a single idea of how I was going to do the ammo belts and other details. So I took the logical solution... desecrating the Marneus Calgar mini (the new one, the one in the termie armour) :P.

I know. In that case I could have taken the head and the right glove; but the Calgar mini is charging on the enemy, so he's shouting and has the fists clenched, so it's quite different from the seated, relaxed guy on his comfy armchair. So I took only some selected bits, as you can see.

So well, this is it for the moment, I have the centerpiece, the big boss. Here you have the blog post:

Now for the rest of the vignette!

Nice progress. Will you add the TV dinner tray and used beer cans on the floor next to him?

Lovely painting on that Lord Macragge diorama, I missed it the first time you showed it.
Nice idea on the Terminator corpse conversion as well. I'm looking forward to seeing how it pans out.

The original kit came with a standing bodyguard. I thought that the best way to translate that into my new vignette was using the modern bodyguards from the Marneus Calgar set. I mean these two:

I must confess I didn't like them back in the day. Those absurd helmets just kill me. So well, this was my chance to get rid of those!
I had to severe those heads and arms to provide them a more 'standing bodyguard' pose (otherwise, they'd look like they were going to kill their boss! I mean, wages can't be that bad for those guys). Replaced them with plastic bits until I got something. Unfortunately I forgot to take pics of the process :(, I only realized when I was priming them:

I've begun to add some colour, I hope I can show you more in a few days. For the moment, here you have them black primed:

A few more explanations can be found on the blog :):

I hope these pics will add some clarity to what I'm trying here :P

Splatting some colour on these should make you see some basic shapes :D

I'm going slightly oldschool with bright colours, but definitely not 80's-bright ;). Just trying to avoid the grim looking we are used nowadays.

You can find it all here:

I've decided to add the standard bearer from the same kit, that would be the touch the original vignette lacked. Still working on the conversion, but I hope I can show in a few days.

I like the paintjob.  The poses make the whole scene differ a lot from the original.  Even the leaned back pose is vastly different from the forward stance of the original.  Cool idea though to modify it.

Now if you can change the guard in the classic version so that instead of a gun he's holding a roll of toilet paper, it'll be perfect.  ;D

I really have no idea what I'm doing.

Drill-brother Ermey adresses the novices:
"In the field, your bolter is your everything! It's your weapon, your friend, your pillow, your coffee-stirrer and your toilet paper!"
One scout in the back starts to raise his hand.
"Yes scout Jenkins, even your toiletpaper, it's either your bolter or your combat knife..."

Marneus and his throne-bros are looking very good so far. The conversion on Lord Calgar really works well, the different parts have gelled together seamlessly.

Slow progress, but still progress :).

Here you can see what I was talking about the other day, the standard bearer. This is the original mini:

I had already replaced the head, I couldn't stand the original helmet. That made me the conversion easier this time ;). I used a conventional helmet and then also repositioned the arm; the pointing sword made no sense at all:

I tried to save part of the paintjob on the standard, I kept the lower part and the scrolls, and repainted all the rest, as well as the mini:

So this is how I faced them all:

As usual, you can find them here:
http://oldschoolworkshop.blogspot.com.es/2015/11/lord-macragge-revisited-pt-4-minis.html?m=0

So now I have the guys, I just need the room itself. Coming soon!

Your Macragge look less like he is sitting on the toilet than the original one!

Great work
