1960s Congo forces in 28mm?
« on: December 17, 2015, 04:46:33 AM »
Gents,

Just a question regards a bit of re-purposing of figures (28mm).

I have a good many Eureka ZANLA figures with SKS and AK-47 rifles.

Other than the ’funky looking’ Simbas, how well would these work for Congolese rebels in the mid 1960s? They did capture ANC stockpiles of FN rifles but Chinese and Soviet weapons shipments provided them with soviet weapons as well.

As far as opponents go…what figures would do for 5 Commando Mercs (excluding Britannia minis which don't work for me)…Aden British? WW2 types?…essentially looking for sculpts to the standard of Paul Hicks, Kosta, Spectre, etc….(sadly the Congo range by Mr Hicks is no longer available).

Lastly, any other info regards other troops from the ANC, UN troops, etc would be most welcome…it’s been a while since this topic has been covered and hoping other possible figure candidates might be available.

Here's a useful link for pics.

The Congo range by Paul Hicks were excellent, lucky me I found a chap who sold me a complete set a couple of years ago. I know what you mean about the other ones...

Other than the ones you mentioned, I haven't found anyone doing minis with WW2 kit + FN and an M1 helmet or beret. The Aden Brits in bush hats would be easier to do head swaps than the Argylls, then some GS webbing cross straps - would look the part.

Akula is doing some suitable models in his latest range, these spring to mind:

There may be more, have a dekko: http://apoc3.blogspot.co.uk/

And there's a thread about them here: http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=69062.0
