Nice one, reminds me of Josh Kirby's (Discworld cover art) Death.

Thanks a lot !
It is true Bob Olley's skeleton do have a very expressive face which sets them apart from the Harryhousen kind and would make them more suitable for Tim Burton's movies or such.
They're a real pleasure to paint if you just let the sculpt work for you instead of fighting it really. I'm eager to paint more.

Something a little different this time, I've got the Shadespire bug (have only played one game though) but I've decided to paint the model right away to get the opportunity to try it a bit more.
I've gone for the good ol' paladin look, I don't see them as real vanilla Stormcast honestly, they're just your vanilla lawful good blokes in armour.

More about them in the blogspot.

OK, just to take part in an excellent contest, I've decided to concert and paint a rubber rooster using my left hand (I'm right handed) to provide the kind of monster Gary Gigax came up with in the good old days...

I know it's terrible and everything but if you do want to know more about it, then go check the blogpost.

I promise I won't do that again...

If that thread over in General Discussions needs any more proof that Gygax was trippin' balls when he came up with his monsters, this must be the most definite piece... lol

Cool that you set challenges for yourself, such as using your off-hand to paint. I tend to do the same thing (but not as extreme), whenever I start a project.

For instance, my Heresy Era Imperial Fists force is made up only of Rogue Trader and 2nd ed variant metal marines and I have not used a single drop of green paint in the entire force.

I find it keeps you thinking and creative, trying to do the max within the boundaries you have set for yourself...

keep it up; this thread is great! :)

A combination of the name of the beast and the appearance of the tentacles gives it a slightly innapropriate japanese cartoon feel.

As for Gygax's monsters I read somewhere that a lot of them were inspired by cheap chinese plastic toys. The creation process behing the rust monster was something like "Gary I need you to write some rules for this weird beetle with tentacles".

All that aside its a nice rooster model and the paintjob is good. The suckers on the tenticles look pretty cool too, but the tentacles could be joined to the body in a more convincing way :)

@Daeothar : Thanks a lot ! I completely agree some constraints can liberate you sometimes, Bach did use them as well as plenty of artists and the solutions you need to come up with are a great boost for imagination.

@Munindk : You should check out the contest page, it's precisely because the original monster manual was filled with cheap toys that I used them and the contest is about it too. It's also why both sculpting and painting are "crude" to say the least, I wanted to capture the techniques and ability of my youth. ^^

Thanks a lot folks !

Here's a champion of chaos from Knightmare miniatures in their Pantheon of Chaos range I 've just painted for a friend's Mordheim band.
It's a Kev Adams' sculpt from a sketch by MrSaturday and he's proven to be one quick and enjoyable fellow to pait !

More about him [u=http://leadplague.blogspot.fr/2018/01/the-sword-of-echoes-undead-champion-of.html]in the blogpost [/u]!

That chaos warrior would make a great Aekhold le miraculeux.

Hadn't thought about it but totally !

Now here's another model I've just painted for a friend (after waiting for almost a year). It's more than 30 years old but man it still has some character ! Those C-series are just fantastic !

You can read more about him in the blogpost.

Nice work, especially that face.
 :-* :-*

I know what you mean about character, as I have kept this fella in my own lead pile for years as I intend to paint him up as a Cult Priest for Strange Aeons when I eventually get around to painting him.
