Im still working on how to apply the palette to the variety of miniatures that I have lined up for this project, so this latest update is only a single figure.  I do like it though, the Aly Morrison sculpted face from the mid-eighties is just brimming with character.

The blog post with some more info is here.

The next update will have a slightly higher model count I hope :)

Thanks Jennifer!

Three more of these old sculpts added this evening.  Lots more to come, so many that I think that this project will likely expand into other rulesets in addition to Frostgrave.

The group so far.

Doesn't Northstar have a ruleset called Shonen? They would probably fit well!

I think you mean ronin. :p Sho(u)nen means "little boy", essentially.

But, yeah, these would be great for the OP.

God damn these look great.

Yeah, "little boy".  The warband is named after a band made exclusively of women too, to confuse things further ;)

Slightly bizarrely, it was only after I started this project that I thought that these figures would translate into the Ronin system very easily.  I picked up the Ronin rules after that, for inspiration at the very least and possibly for gaming with.

In terms of the project expanding into other systems, its more about possibly getting involved with systems that require a larger model count, seeing as I am enjoying painting these so much.  Dragon Rampant is looking like a possibility for example.

God damn these look great.

Thanks :)  They are turning out as I had imagined they might, which is gratifying.

Thanks Andy!

I have heaps more, so plenty to come I suspect.

Absolutely great! I have some citadel ninjas and Black Hat samurai in my painting que that just moved up a bit due to these.   :D

Would you mind sharing what colours you used for the blacks? It looks very effective.

Glad to hear it.  Make sure that you share photos when they are done.

No problem.  Its very straightforward

Black all over (I use Army Painter Black)
Edge with Citadel Dark Reaper
Extreme edge with Citadel Fenrisian Grey.

There is a blueish tint to those greys that gives a nice comic book sort of black.  Occasionally I add a wash of black (either Citadel Nuln Oil or more usually Army Painter dark tone) after the Dark Reaper edging, particularly if I overdo it.  I decide on a case by case basis.

I hope that helps :)

Definitely. I usually use a Citadel Rotting Flesh mixed in with the black for the green tint, but I'll try something like this out next time. I find that the trick to good blacks is having a little bit of a hue to the grey.

I'll get to it  :D

No there is also a fantasy version of Ronin out. I looked it up now. It is called Daisho. You can see how I confused the name, as they are very similar.*cough*

Is anyone else having trouble viewing the images, or is it just a Finland thing?

Are the photos above working now Mikko?

Regardless, the reposted images below should be visible.
