Those are absolutely lovely, Brent. Well done. The figures are even better than the vehicles, and that's saying something. Stunning  :-*

As you say - very definitely a deserty phase (even though it's Italy!)

I like to think Steiner and the boys are ex Ramcke Brigade survivors, transferred to 1/FJR3 at Cassino and finally ended up on the Eastern Front ...... :)

I meant to ask Brent, how do you do the dust on the Opels windscreens?

Hey matey,

I blocked the cab side windows with cotton wool, cut some sellotape to shape and put it on the screen then lightly matt varnished it  .. in hindsight the shapes should have been bigger, but it's close enough for 'govt work.

cheers

Queeg/Brent,
love the stuff you're doing  :D I just wanted to ask you about your vehicle painting process a few pages back. You put the decals on quite late in your series of steps. But one assumes these symbols would be subject to fading, rain streaking and what have you. Why don't you put them on earlier in the process?
cheers

Hey matey, yup I always put them on almost last. I do weather them, but selectively with a fine very thinned layer of off-white. After that the last steps are usually track pigments and dusting and any lower decals will get some of the over-dusting from the running gear.

The reason I do it that way it that it's much more controlled than applying early and covering with all the tonal steps. I want my decals blended in but still able to provide an off-setting contrast to the overall drab colours. Some of the wips pics in posted here kinda show it but I'll see if I have some that show the difference between the freshly applied decal and then after I've blended it.  (and there's probably some on the blog which show it better)

cheers
Brent

Thanks Brent,
I could see from your 8th Army models that the tac signs stood out very nicely. And I have smothered some of mine because I put them on before the weathering  :? Good on you for sharing your skills so generously  :)
