New Mutton Chop Miniatures BEF Cavalry

Morning gents some finished pics of my up and coming BEF cavalry. The sword arms are separate and the riders and horses are one piece castings. A separate rifle bucket and sword in scabbard that needs to be glued in to place. Up after these will be lancers and command as well.











These are now at the Griffin Moulds ready for their expert skills. I hope to have them ready for Salute.

One piece castings? Awesome.

Just one thing though... charging horses will always keep their head up as they will want to see where they are going. Reining in the head will force the horse to slow down.

This is why folks say "give the horse it's head." By loosing the reigns the horse knows to gallop.

The rider will not only loosen the reigns but also will stand up out of the saddle and lean forward using the stirrups.

Generally, as a horse is galloping it will have one leg on the ground and 3 in the air or the reverse. The 3 legs moving at the same time give the horse it's speed, while the single leg maintains it's balance and momentum.

I've been eyeing the mutton chop BEF stuff for if (when) I resurrect an old 1914 project I started a while ago. These are a must when I do!

As Ray says though, pulling a horse's head down at the gallop will result in an immediate transfer from the cavalry to the Royal Flying Corps.

I assumed the horse was 'shying' away from a loud noise or shell blast.

No, the reins would be slack then, it's being reined-in. But seriously it's not that big a deal for me, I'm more curious as to why that horse is smaller than the other two.

Regardless though, still the best cavalry I've seen.
