Jetengine in the 24th 1/2 century !
« on: March 24, 2016, 01:21:39 PM »
Besides my Batman stuff I've been painting some test models for Retro Raygun from Hydra Miniatures, it's an awesome company producing nice 'Retro Sci-Fi' miniatures (think Flash Gordon, Buck Rogers etc), they've got three lines atm, Retro Raygun (28-30mm combat), War Rocket (set in the Retro Raygun universe, ship combat) and Primal Dawn ('Prehistoric Fantasy' which crosses over by having some of the miniatures be aliens in Retro Raygun).

In Retro Raygun there are currently four factions (with a fifth expected) as well as alien mercenaries. The Galacteers (think Star Trek Federation with jetpacks), The Robot Legion (DESTROY-ALL-HUMANS!), the Valkeeri (evil slave owning space amazons) and the Zenethians (Old school martian style aliens).

From airless worlds of barren rock come the Robot Legion, exiting from their factories in endless numbers.....

Nice work. I've loved their stuff for a while, especially the War Rocket ships, but have absolutely no use for them. At the moment, my sensible voice is stronger than my foolish voice. At the moment ...

Evil Valkeeri, psionic slave owning Amazon's. I went for a Barsoom skin tone to make them stand out a bit more as 'alien' otherwise they are just oddly garbed women.

Now a Galacteer Trooper, equipped with a Jetpack and Radium Raygun !

Cool looking minis.  Nice looking paint jobs too.   Would be good for Pulp Alley!

Nice stuff. My inner voices are like Morgan's at the moment.

Really? Retro Raygun doesn't have Ming the Mercile... er... Imperials, yet?  lol

REALLY impressed with the Legion. Pulp vibe loud and clear, Sky Captain-style.

I'd love to have me some of those troopers even painted half as well.

I'm a bit less pleased with the lass. I'm fine with blister-red skin tone, but I think the face needs something. Wish I could say what.

White eyes perhaps ?

They've just re-released the limited edition Ming expy, 'Xurr the exalted'.

GAWD, I wish I could do the work to learn to paint!

That's AWESOME.

Doug

Edit:
White eyes perhaps ?

*shrug* SOME other color; I know there's shading going on, but they look 'red-on-red' to me. But see above, and remember 'those who can't...', then extend to those who can't teach, play critic...  ;)

Indeed! I've been slowly collecting some Retro Raygun minis for our Pulp Alley games.  ;)

A whole unit of Robot Legionnaires has been finished. With an Optio (sergeant) and a Heavy Support trooper. These models were something of a pain to assemble due to the arms being seperate from the torso yet requiring them to be in a certain  alignment so the rayguns can fit in the hands.

Buster Gordy arrives from the planet Mingas ready to save his girlfriend !

A nice Flash Gordon expy, I followed the example scheme but changed the white trousers for blue, it looks more pulpy that way in my opinion, very bright and heroic. First time painting Irises as well, difficult but looks good.

Up next is Xurr the Exalted, a 'Not-Ming' miniature. I went with a dark colour scheme to contrast with his arch-foe Buster Gordy, purple insinuating royalty (at least in his own mind), dark green for a militaristic feel and black leather for a classic villain effect.

REALLY like! Last time, I tried critiquing, I'd have to say my call was a massive failure. Lesson learned.  ;)

His self-opined exaltedness is most handsome, indeed!

From Dimension Z come Alien Interlopers ! Fear the might of the Zenethians !!!

I went with the classic ‘grey’ look for the flesh but something very bright and outlandish for their uniforms for that real 60s feeling.

Just finished two units of Minibots. Not many models left for my Robot Legion. Just some Hoverbots, Warbots, another Legionnaire unit and characters.

Two Aliens from the bestiary this time. First of all the vicious Aquaclops !

Painted it very much in the stock style.

Next up is the Cosmic Stranger

My paint scheme was inspired by the cheronites from Star Trek TOS
