Everyone
Theodore 'Thor' Hemsworth, Gweneth 'Gwyn' Potts, Rebbecca 'Becca' Carrington and Spike

Sue and Cory Prescott, and Ginger Webster

Earl Masterson and Maya Ward

Robert Stark, Priyanka 'Pri' Kirmanni, Abu Kirmani, and Shawn Pegg

The Farm

The electricity died around six and it was going to be a long dark night in the garage. But Earl had a nice gas grill so Maya once again came to the rescue with an incredible dinner made from our humble stocks. The kids hit it off and Becca kept the new little ones occupied. Everyone seemed impressed with the rampage Stark and I went on in front of the gates. Even Gwyn seemed to forgive me, hugging me tightly, once I was cleaned up, and telling me not to do something that damn foolish again. We got acquainted with Shawn, the new guy, who jumped into the truck on our way out of town. Earl's niece, Maya, was a bit shy, but seemed to get along with Gwen and Ginger. The distant rumble of thunder announced the oncoming rain and we all went to bed early. Stark, Earl and I took shifts that night, but all was quiet except for the storm. We intended to hit the road early the next morning as it turned out we were only about 30 minutes away from Gwen's parents farm, but I was on last watch and fell asleep. Between the soothing rainfall and everything that happened recently we all over slept. Around 10 I got folks moving. The storm was gone leaving the world scrubbed bright and clean. Earl had finished up on the van's radiator last and so we were ready. He drove his Challenger and gave me the keys to the garage's loaner, a beat up but working pickup truck. With Gwen in the truck, she insisted, off we went. Earl and Maya were in the Challenger and everyone else were in the van. With car wrecks and groups of zeds everywhere, the thirty minute drive took over three hours. It was late afternoon when we got to the farm.

The convoy on its way to the farm.

We didn't want to spook Gwyn's folks, so we left the van and Challenger a couple of hundred yards down the road.
We'd radio when it was good for them to come up.
Gwyn's folk's cars are in the drive so the should be home.
Hmmmmm, there's quite a few Zombies in the yard...

I got out and popped the first one with my Luger, but the bolt locked up.
Shit... I holstered it and drew my trusty Katana.

Gwyn wouldn;t wait, but jumped out running for the door.

Mom!?!
Dad!?!

The front door was locked but Gwyn had the key.
My blood froze when we entered the house.
Furniture was overturned, pictures smashed!
It was like someone had intentionally trashed the place.
[The grey grid represents the interior sans walls, doors, etc.]
I chased Gwyn as she ran through the downstairs, her folks were not to be seen.

I stopped her at the stairs, and carefully went up with her right behind me.
Good thing to as a couple of punks were up there waiting for us.

[the dice show who goes when, high first, ties are simultaneous]
The punk with the pistol had crazy eyes [he had a 1]

Before they could react, I thrust the Katana into the crazy eyed punk's chest.
His friend with the shotgun ran as Gwyn fired a round into the ceiling.

I chased him down into a bedroom.

Just after I cut the coward down,

a closet door crashed open and one of their friends who had turned Zed crashed the party.
After a tense moment, I put it down...

The farm house was secure, but not the farm.

I called Stark to come on in, and be prepared for a fight.

They pulled uneasily into the drive

immediately attracting attention

Stark shot his first Zombie of the day

While Earl

just gave his a little love tap with the Challenger

Gwen and I came out to help

a Zed charged Maya who cowered in the car but Earl stayed true and nicely shot it

a bunch of Zeds stumbled at us

Gwen emptied her magazine and I sliced and diced

but all we bought was time as they were just knocked down or pushed back

so we fled inside, locking the sturdy oak door.

all the gunfire was drawing more

Stark got out of the van and started to flank the group by the front door

We step back out to help

Then Gwen has the brilliant idea to snipe with the 30-06

and I press towards Stark who swinging his Katana like a Mifune wannabe

I catch up to Stark and we push around the side of the house while Earl covers are backs with his 12 guage
'This'll come in handy' Stark yells with a nod to the camper

Maya takes the opportunity to bail from the Challenger

and run for the house to snipe with Gwyn

we moving into the back yard cutting them down one at a time and cover each other's backs

while Earl keep unleashing the OO buck

almost there

just one more

I almost missed

but luckily got the chance for a second swing

are we done?

I think so

Earl, with Gwyn and Maya cleared out the front

I went over to van to see one more coming up the drive

my swing missed, I was getting tired

Stark came up

and finished it just as Earl got there

We got everyone out of the van

and moving

towards the safety of house

Stark, Earl and I go to check out a couple of sheds that Gwyn is concerned about, the rest were still locked but these two?

anyone home?

Yes!

[showing the Insight rolls and who acts when]

[all three's shot simultaneous]
Stark ducks back without shooting, Earl unloads into the air then ducks back and I fall backwards to avoid a magnum to the face

as the punk in green runs out the back, I scramble up and cut down the S.O.B.

really?

the last one, the padlock on the door to the well pump house is broken
again...
[showing the Insight rolls and who acts when]

the last thing I remember is opening the door

I woke the next day with a throbbing headache and a new scar in a bedroom all decked out in Barbie pink, late I found out it was Gwyn's old room. I quickly learned that Earl was in the guest room across the hall, also with bloody holes in him stitched up by Gwyn's talented fingers. We had taken the farm and no one died, at least none of us. Stark had finished up those gangers, but a couple got away. Great, more punks who hate us. That night, Gwyn told me that she had found her parents. Out behind the horse barn where the daffodils bloom first in the spring, her father had buried her mother and then shot himself. They had both been injured by Zeds in town. The house was still a mess, but they were getting it into shape. The good news was the gangers hadn't been able to get into Gwyn's Dad's gun safe and now were had a nice supply of ammo to go with all the guns we got from the dead punks. It seemed everyone obeyed Gwyn while I was out of it. The gangers had apparently been hiding from the Zombies that came up when they set off the campers burglar alarm. Stark then told me that the electricity had been out all day, but over the car's radio, they had heard that the governor had declared martial law across Tennessee. Not good. Not good at all...

The aftermath

Whew, what a game. We did fine against the first gangers and then against the Zeds, but one bad roll almost cost Thor his life. Both he and Earle went OOF [Out Of the Fight] that last gunfight, but thankfully Gwyn had medical training and we had med kits to use that greatly enhanced the survival rolls. Unfortunately no one increased their Rep, but no one went down either. Well now Thor and company have a safe base, again...

Thanks for looking.
Until next time...

Love your zombie saga here. Follow it as much as I can. I have been using some of the same figures in my collection. I recognize some of the Hunger Games figures there. I have a bunch. I have even zombiefied a number of mine since I have a bunch of duplicates.

I really enjoyed your story posts on the Miniatures page. The build up of events towards a full zombie breakout maintained suspense and added realism to the story line. Your scenery was well staged for each plot. Thanks for sharing.

Not sure how I missed these posts before.  I've gone back and read all your previous posts.  I've been considering All Things Zombie - Final Fade Out from Two Hour Wargames for some time.  This just may have pushed me over the edge to order.   I noticed in some of the photos you are using the risk and rewards deck.   How do you like using the cards?

Thank you everyone for the kind words.

Yes, I'm playing solo and using the All Things Zombie -Final Fade Out Edition by Two Hour Wargames.
I can't recommend them enough, but as stated below, they're not for everyone.

The cards make determining what's in a building quicker, but they are not needed to play.
ATZ-FFO is a lot of fun but the 2HW reaction system is not for everyone.
Try out the free Chain Reaction rules which present the heart of the rules.
If you like them, get ATZ as ATZ adds all the zombie flavor and campaign generation stuff you need.
Have you seen the ATZ campaigns posted on Vampifan's blog?
Its great and set out teh step by step rule play very clearly where I just try to describe the POV of Thor.
Also, check out the awesome ATZ [ww2 and scifi flavored] Batreps here on LAF by Montiboy.

Awesome! Great AAR, set-up and eye candy - couldnīt be better!
Yes it could.
I could be using all hand built custom terrain, swell painted figures and working scale trains all by Michi Inc!
