Are those the Warmonger halberdiers?

They are indeed. Lovely models to paint, but they are a fair bit bigger than other figures from the range. Little bit bigger than the pikemen, but they tower over crossbowmen.

I haven't got a problem with that though since all the models are great!

Finally been getting around to some painting, and I've decided to dig out some of my plastic 28mm stuff. Since I've only been painting tiny stuff for more than a year now I really wanted to have a bit of practice so I grabbed my box of Mantic skeletons and realised that I really had no idea how utterly lovely they are. Anyhow, I dived in and did some practice painting.

Not the most exciting paintwork, but it got me a bit more comfortable with the scale. Plan is to use him in some sci-fi gaming as a reanimated corpse used by some Nurgle guys, or something.

Thanks for looking.

P.s. oh hell, that picture is huge..... oh well, warts and all I guess!

That's a sweet paint job! :-* The shield and the glow effect on the eyes are particularly well done! :-*

Oh my!

Three months with no fantasy work.

Inexcusable.

Anyway, a couple of days ago I stumbled across my long neglected Warmaster scale Half-Ogres and I did a bit of sculpting:

Bloody hell I have missed doing this. After such a long time of my mind being a bit all over the place I finally think I'm back in my sculpting space. Maybe it's the nice weather, maybe the need for doing something more personally proactive in the face of things being generally so downbeat. For whatever reason, I've found myself energised and excited about getting these Ogres finished so I can start on some more units, this means I will have Arabian Spearmen and the Half-Ogre unit ready for production....... fingers crossed.

Thanks for looking.

Good stuff, glad you have got your mojo back.

Looking forward to seeing the end result. In production sounds very good too!

The Big-By-Comparison Skeletal Fellow is a BEAUTY. I love the glowing eyes AND unlike your smaller Folk he doesn't cause sympathetic eye strain. VERY WELL DONE!
I took a tour of all your earlier work. It is inspiring stuff. I can understand the need for a break, however, just to regain your eye sight.

It's crazy how well you sculpt in such a small scale. Your sculpts can compete with a lot of 28 mm in detail.

Thanks chaps.

fred: I'm happy to have a bit more mojo back, I've been missing it!

DeafNala: cheers, I was quite pleased with how the skeleton turned out. I just wish I could paint the big figures quickly, and I find assembly of plastic figures a real imposition! Also went for my first ever eye test in 38 years (because apparently you are supposed to)....... fortunately they're still dreamy so no excuses!

kaiser: very kind of you to say so. To be honest I struggle a bit with anything larger than 15mm, the smaller scales really lend themselves to a certain amount of exaggeration and caricature so they can be quite forgiving. I'm not terribly fond of some of the computer sculpted ones since they tend to scale things much more realistically. I find them amazing but still am left feeling a bit cold.

Eeeek. So, the wandering mind strikes again and I simply had to paint up these Microworld Games Barbarian Warriors:

Really neat and beefy little figures. Part of the Dark Alliance bundle I bought a year or so ago and I think they're going to be quite the distraction! I based these guys on 10mm x 40mm mdf before painting instead of doing the separately and then baseing them, much easier and less time consuming.

BEEFCAKE!

Thanks for looking.

They are tiny. But look great. I assume they are 6mm if Microworld, but they look smaller.

They are indeed Microworld 6mm, but now we take a scale leap up to a Zombicide Black Plague Abominatroll:

I don't play Zombicide, but I love the trio in the Zombie Bosses set and he's been haunting my painting table for about a year now. I really struggled painting a 28mm scale monster, probably the biggest miniature I've painted, as the techniques needed were very different from 6mm, 10mm and regular 28mm...... stupidly I chucked a black wash straight onto the base layers and ended up struggling against a very dark base. Silly boy. Learnt a fair bit by having a go though and ended up enjoying being a bit sketchy with the painting and a bit freer with the brush. I'm planning to use him as a reanimated Chaos Troll, raised by the Necromancer in my kleptomaniac Vampire's gang of looters.

Painted another of the really very good Mantic skeletons too:

Thanks for looking.

Some more 6mm fun, this time some Microworld games Blade Demons. I've had a go at basing them on a single 80mm x 60mm base, partly since I've seen some amazing stuff done with 6mm Napoleonics and also to try and get a bit more bang for my buck (import tax is always a bit of a savage kick in the billingsgate) by giving the figures a bit of space and scenery to scramble around in.

I quite like the notion of fighty angry Demons not being terribly well disposed to rank and order, so I thought I'd have them rushing towards their foes (probably some feckless peasants) in a loose skirmishing arrangement.

The picture was as good as I could get, having a bit of a struggle with photographing these small figures, but I hope you get the idea.

Thanks for looking.

So much microbeauty. What do you intend to do with these?

Thanks Reed, I'm planning to use them for Dragon Rampant. I've got so many baccus 6mm that I'm thinking of pressing into service; ancient Persians and scythians (as desert dwelling high elves?), Romans etc but for fantasy games.

I like the glowing eyes effect on your skeleton

wonder if I can pull that off in 15mm?  :)
