Looks interesting. Option A for me.

A looks the simplest. As for the vehicle. It looks too modern for WWII - I'd modify the cab at least to look less curved; gutting that whole part and rebuilding it where possible - even with just a basic sealed box.

I'd not noticed that - but I'd agree.  I'd go for an open cab.

Thanks folks! I think option A it is so!

@rich h - I'm not sure what you mean by a slack track. Actually my first time making a vehicle in 27 years of toy soldiering.

@wyrmalla - Good point on the cab. I was going to make it armoured but will make it more box-y and reduce the curves

Father's day permitting with get the wheels done today and start on the cab.

@Rich_H Thanks! See what you mean. The kit I'm using has fairly long single top section so don't think I'd have enough smaller track pieces to make it. Went with option A in the end.

Spent this evening making a little ladder for the back out of rod styrene. Fiddle-y work but got there in the end. Also dug out some sheet styrene from the garage to build the cab. I did a small bit of research on the Komsomolets armoured tractor and while I'm definitely not looking to be historically accurate, I do think I will go and build the cab from scratch. Aim will be to get a more box-y overall shape and do the hatches etc similar to the Komsomolets.

@Rich - brilliant thanks! The chains are interesting.
I've not considered how to do the platform / escalator structure yet so this is really useful

Actually looking through these now I'm thinknig the base of this steam shovel + Tatlin tower as a command hq / objective - probably a project for 2040 at the rate I'm going

How about a walking dragline:

Fits with the excavator theme and perfectly in the timeline.

They are a bit slow though, but I've often though they would make an idea artillery platform or assault vehicle for trench warfare.
