28mm Cannons - Height off the Deck for Gunports
« on: 16 January 2009, 10:03:01 PM »
I am finishing up my brigs, and I have some 28mm cannons on order.  In order to get these brigs finished, could someone give me a rough idea of where to locate the gunports (i.e., height off the deck and rough dimensions of a reasonable gunport)?

Thanks a ton!

Capn Goomb

EDIT: Oh, here is a piccie of my brigs!  They are made out of pink board, cardboard, dowels, some balsa, coffee stirring sticks and florist wire.

And 3 of them!

The dimensions of the cannons I used on my tartane; the carriage is 20mm wide across the front wheels, the height to the centre of the barrel is 12.5mm. The barrel is 5mm diameter. These suite Eureka cannon as well.

Ahoy!  Thanks, mates!  That is exactly what I needed.  As for the tartan, I have both of Fsultana's posts/ships bookmarked.  They are particularly nice models.  Here is a link to his post on this one:

As you can see in the thread, the anchor is actually a treble hook used for fishing.  That was pretty creative.  I suppose smaller treble hooks could be used as grappling hooks, but you would have to snip or file down the barb.  Getting stuck by your own minis would be poetic justice, but it would REALLY hurt (I have done it before while fishing....it isn't fun).

Cheers!  Thanks again gents! Now I can get these puppies done and build some smaller ships.

Yes it is scratchbuilt Malamute - but you have seen them before. The other one is here http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=5900.0

I have a third now - a simpler little ship with less rigging.
