The vile Doctor Giantopithicus! (New, Improved Photos)
« on: 21 January 2009, 07:31:19 AM »
EDIT: 1/22/09 - I've recently purchased a tripod and improved the photos of the henchmen somewhat. I thought I'd swap out the old ones and add them here for those interested.

The start of my villains for our upcoming Pulp Sci-Fi Games.
Our first subject is the wicked Doctor Gigantopithicus, wanted in four dimensions! Beginning as a mild mannered Dentist, the Doctor experimented with mind control technology in order to ease his patient's suffering, and things quickly got out of hand.
The doctor stands at the helm of one of his insidious devices.

This is the "Alpha Zorgi" figure, sculpted by Bob Olley, from the Golgo Island range. Not technically 20s-40s period, but close enough, and I couldn't resist picking him up.

EDIT: Just for fun, a photo of the good doctor from the 1934 picture, "Radon Dentists from Dimension X!"

Technicians in the Doctor's service, as indicated by their white uniforms. They were specially selected for their technical aptitude, but like most of the so-called 'Radon Men', they have been severely restricted in their independence and self awareness.

EDIT: This new photo depicts the boys with a portable version of the Doctor's successful "Death Ray/Tooth Whitener Device"

EDIT: Warriors in the Doctor's service, purple suited henchmen lead by his trusted lieutenants, clad in black. The Lieutenants have been granted the most "self awareness" of the Radon Zombies in Doctor Gigantopithicus' entourage, with the exception of a few special individuals... (to be revealed soon!)

Killer Robots! These mechanoidal monsters contain only the brains of loyal servants, the rest of their bodies constructed solely for the purpose of destruction! In a pinch, they are also trained Dental Technicians.

These are modular kits from the Brigade Games "Killer Robots" line, which I can't recommend highly enough!

EDIT: Some better, full bodied pictures, of these dangerous beings.

Hope these are a bit more clear for you, guys. Thanks for the guidance.

I think they are great, especially their dental plan, where do I sign up...

But anyway, cool miniatures and love the story around them. I can't really see the staining from viscous green bio coolent though.

Definitely in keeping with pulp but very different from the norm. Well done.

Cool figures
Love the idea.
Especially the Doc.
First picture shows the detail when the rest are a bit fuzzy. Like the stars in the back ground.
Have you tried more light when taking the photo’s. Also I found that taking a photo further back without using to much zoom, helps with the detail. Use a high Mb setting on the camera and then crop the picture down to your figures also helps.
The robots are really good, very nasty looking.
I would like to see some bigger pictures of your scenery please.

Thank you all for the kind comments. Much appreciated:) Glad you like 'em. And hopefully my next pictures won't be so rough.

Mac, no problem - I'll get some photos of the scenery up soon.

Love 'em.  :-*

Great stuff. The different coloured jumpsuits is a brilliant idea (although the purple ones look a bit too much like The Phantom for my tastes).

Bob -

Thanks, mate! I was wondering how to differentiate the types, and sort of stumbled across it. About halfway through the purple I thought, "wow, these do look an awful lot like the Phantom", but after some thought I do like them. Will be sure to do the Phantom differently enough that he doesn't look quite the same.  If they drive me crazy enough, I suppose I could always re-do 'em, but they do have a certain charm.

I really do need to do a Phantom up if I end up doing this "Lost City" project I've been drawing up. Maybe I can convert a Phantom from one of these guys with some strategic use of GS. Too many ideas lately.

Oh, on your other question, I do have a Tripod, but of course it doesn't work with the new camera. So I'll need to get a new one soon. I suspect you're right. Will probably make the task much easier.

Some great work there Doc. I'm planning to use the Radon Zombies for my 1950s alien invasion games as mutants serving the Thrade. All they need as suggested by Ink the Troll on Frothers is the addition of GS pingpong ball eyes to resemble the mutants from Invaders from Mars and the aliens from Killers from Space.
Waiter, my soup is giggling.

Friggin sweet work to be certain. I concur that I want to get access to their super secret teeth bleaching formula. Totally bonkers over the killer robots but I have a brain in a jar fetish best not spoken of at length.

Onebigriver -

Glad you like 'em! I agree, they'd work well for those guys. I also think they'd work pretty well as "Radar Men from the Moon" with the addition of some fins for their hoods. Throw in a Commando Cody, and you'd be all set.

Two Gun -

Well, the nice thing about the brain in the jar employee is that he rarely complains about his work, and his dental costs are minimal. The most he asks for now and then is a new pickle jar. The less experienced ones keep asking for peanut butter or nutella jars, but I keep trying to tell them that it simply won't work....

As for your teeth bleaching, the good Doctor Gigantopithicus is only too happy to oblige. Just sign up for your bio-chemical lobotomization, and you'll be on the fast track toward whiter teeth and no regrets before you know it (and technically, given the thoroughness of the process, you probably won't know it!)

::) Well, then, you'd have to give the martians some sorts of insidious devices to fight that cold steel;) It's only sporting!

O yes, there'll be rayguns, mind control, giant bugs, the odd robot, a bloody great Lindberg Area 51 UFO, the odd BEM, and perhaps some warmachines.
