Molotov makes Mad Max cars
« on: 12 July 2016, 04:48:12 PM »
Hello all! I figured it was about time I posted up the different pictures of Mad Max cars I've built over the last few months :-)

If you're wondering, I used to post on and off in my Pulp adventures thread; http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=82519.0

I usually use them in the game "Gaslands" which is due for release by Osprey miniatures in the next few years. a link to their website is here; http://gaslands.com/forum/

anyway, enough of that, pictures!

So here's my Warparty as it stands, the motley crew of miscreants I affectionately call the Dead Men ;-)

It's a whole mixed bag of different things, from cars to trucks to truck tanks and Brum the Murder Tractor.

Brum's a favourite of mine...

The very first car I ever made and painted was this one, with the screaming skull. He was inspired by a similar enthusiast's work over on the facebook group Post Apoc Cars; https://www.facebook.com/groups/318623315005784/

It's been a long road since I made that very first buggy. I had an idea of the sorts of things I wanted to do, but the first attempts I made were pretty shocking ^^; I tried to do too much, too quickly, so I went back to basics of working in a different scale and took it slow. Each vehicle has been a learning process, and each time I tried something different :-)

I've come a long way, and there's still more to come yet.

Let me know what you guys think, and enjoy!

Already seen them on the Gaslands forum but they're awesome, both paint job and the imaginiativeness of the builds.  :-*

Quite some horsepower!

Are they 20mm or 28mm? I would guess 28mm by the bottle cap, but I am not sure?
Ask at the LAF, and answer shall thy be given!

@Argonor;

They are all 20mm, or roughly there abouts ;-) I base most of my cars off of hotwheels and matchbox toys, so the scale can vary a bit between some of the larger vehicles.

Thanks for all the kind words guys :-) I'll see if I can update this log soon enough ;-D

OK. I would probably want to go 28, should I ever delve into the car wars of the apocalypse, but your collection would still be a great source of inspiration!

Just wow! :o would have guessed 28mm just from the detail, so am even more impressed knowing they are 20mm.

Update time ;-)

Thank you for all the support guys :-) and yes, I think it's safe to say I've heard of Devil's Run;

I received one of the Skinners faction boxes about a month ago, just gotten round to putting it all together ;-) It comes with truck, a teeny tiny buggy and two bikes (both of which I've yet to assemble.)

Custom Wrecking-Ball on the truck, and I changed the buggy around so it doesn't have twin mini-guns on there (looked a bit...high tech for such a savage vehicle) but it's all on the painting table now. Still got some work to do on the Monster Truck (My first! huzzah!) until that's ready for a spray coat.

Finished the Wrecking Ball yesterday. It's a Zinge Industries combo of bits (I think they are hydraulic suspensions for a vehicle? pfft, Wrecking Ball sez I!) with a Poundland length of chain and a solid plastic ball from a Robot Wars kit I had years ago! so a nice mix of things.

I've got the police-interceptor on the painting table too. I've just realised I've actually inverted the colour scheme, White base with black details -> black base with white details. Oh well.

I like the idea of having a skull painted on the hood wearing aviator shades ;-) Something along the lines of "To Punish and Enslave" that the transformer film decepticon police bot had on it's tail ;-D

Here's something you might not normally see. The other day I stripped the paint off of 16 different vehicles using Nitro Mors (A paint stripping acid used for cleaning fences. Available from most Wilko stores in the UK. deactivates with water, so you won't get hurt if you use it responsibly) and thought you'd all like a gander.

A mix of different scales, the Mini is the same size as a Ford Pickup Truck, so that'd have to change.

But they look damn Blingy when put back together! ;-)

And to tease my future projects...

Something Big Rig this way comes...

So it's been a while since I last had a game ;-) Around 2 months to be precise. Since then I've expanded my gang, made and painted a War-Rig, and tonight me and my friend Aidan decided she needed the chance to taste burning twisted metal :-D

This is a battle-report / pic heavy upload that I usually put on facebook and the Gaslands forum;
https://www.facebook.com/groups/318623315005784/
http://gaslands.com/forums/topic/pictures-of-my-gaslands-games-d/#post-1734

Let me know if you guys would like to see more :-)

1

two quick games, 40 minutes and 33 minutes a piece (my fastest times yet!) and with two pre-made teams I threw together the other night. 27 points a side, the Wolverine making his first appearance on the wasteland, against the Reaper (truck), Spooky Skull (car) and Screaming Skull (buggy).

2

3

First game was a loss for me, the Wolverine destroyed Screaming Skull (after it suicide charged with an exploding ram) by gear phase 3 of turn 1, only to run aground between two boulders and get rocket shot to death.

4

5

6

7

(Spooky Skull actually survived the onslaught of the Wolverine. Barely, but just enough...)

8

9

10

11

12

13

Second game went alot better for the Wolverine (probably because I had the 3 against it) and he managed to wipe out the whole lot with liberal applications of Flamethrower weaponry and hand grenades! With the 4ed rules on attacks per gear phase, and we were probably doing this wrong, we were using each crew man to make an attack with a weapon (from the vehicle's equipment, or handguns) all at the same time. So 3 guys in a pick up truck, all threw a grenade each (using up all 3 ammo at once) to just do Crazy damage to the War-Rig. Not as much mind as rockets, rockets are fantastically good, but considering they are locked without campaign upgrades I guess balanced. I didn't even get a rocket off before all 3 of my vehicles were ignited and sent running, exploding and sliding under the Wolverine's wheels :-D

19

14

15

16

17

18

20

21

Yeah everything in those two arcs is pretty much dead meat ^^; The front not so much, I found he'd try to move his cars out of a direct frontal attack...can't say I blame him really ;-D

22

First turns of the game are still crazy lethal. I'd say the majority of our casualities come from turn 1, gear phase 3 and 4. That's when people enter long weapons range, and more often then not, get close enough to get smash attacks in.

23

24

(Yeah everything was just sort of burning by the end of the second game!)

Great stuff all round :-) Will have to have a go at some more low-point games. One car per player creates an indescribably quick turn sequence, as there's less micro and more killing to look forward to! I'll have to get that damn rear-trailer done...it is an awfully nimble War-Rig without haulage slowing it down... ;-)

It's what you've all been waiting for...

A post-apoc 2CV! :-D well, it's not the trailer for my big War-rig, but it's getting there...so in the meantime, this little guy ;-)

I decided to push the envelope with this build. Open top, passengers (with bomb sticks no less) and a combo of different bits while still retaining the look and feel of the 2CV.

whole mix of bits, mostly plasticard and rod, alongside a gun from the Devil's Run accessory kit, a Zinge industries barrel, and Zvedza Medieval peasants for the lancers ;-)

red wheel at the back is a steering wheel from another hotwheels car (but of course!) and the beige wheel is a trophy taken from a WW2 german biker kit.

More soon ;-)
