I wonder which miniatures would be suitable for the new beasts?
Any suggestions? Or will Northstar release appropriate models?

E.g. I thought a Devourer could look like the Thacaldān from Mierce Miniatures:

But this is a pretty expensive model, especially when you need more than one...

I won't have the book till its released at the end, but besides Repear (which IIRC the largest bug they do is on a 40mm base) and older metal stuff, off the top of my head there's Puppetswar.

I remember seeing pictures of some Defiance Games bugs as well, but I'm not sure if they're still in business.

Rebel Minis also do a 15mm giant bug range, which might do for 28mm.

But ah, I'm just throwing stuff at the wall here, as all I have is a general gist of what you're looking for. By the looks of the mini you posted a Underdark Umber Hulk is kind of similar.

If the model you're looking for is on a 40mm base, and needs to be cheap, although I already mentioned Reaper, they've these three in their catalouge (only the first comes in plastic though, but runs at like £4 a model).

I'm making my own tunnel system board right now, and the intent's to fill it bug minis. That Frost Devil (the first one) can easily be bulked up a bit with a bit of greenstuff to serve as a burrowing beastie.

They're described as quite a gentle creature so something less menacing would be the shot. Maybe that new GW bug that the woodelf thing rides?

The Rebel Minis bug is (like many of his figures these days) actually from the old Starship Troopers range originally from Mongoose, repurposed as a 15mm fig.  It's absolutely big enough to serve as a 28mm critter, assuming you want something about the size of a rhino.

If you can find one, Black Orc Games' 100 Kingdoms range had a very good sized giant beetle critter that would be suitable as well.  Of course they're out of business these days, and I don't see one on ebay.

Belated addition for anyone looking for creepy bug-monster-things, there's the Privateer Press Skorne Aradus models.  There are two big guys on 50mm bases:

And a warbeast pack on 30mm bases:

This guy on a 40mm base might also be useful as a Frostgrave diggy monster:

And this upcoming nightmarish Legion of Everblight land kraken thing:

Just took a look in the book: the Devourer is as big as a horse with coach.
@hobby services: thanks, very interesting models! I think one could create a scenario door Frostgrave with a hive of this beasts  :)

Sure could, couldn't you?

Privateer stuff is a little expensive, but it's an oft-overlooked source for all sorts of weird critters and steam/arcanotech robots.  And they sell parts on their site, which can be handy for conversions.  Helps that a lot of the bigger figs (like those two bigger Aradus) are in sold as modular kits that can be assembled as one of 2-4 different models - you wind up with lots of interesting leftover parts for conversions, terrain, etc.

How about these little monsters for Amplipedes? I am not a big fan of Khrasan Miniatures, but they do have some great stuff:

$5.99 from http://khurasanminiatures.tripod.com/15mmscifi-infantry.html#alien-creatures

And I second Wrmalla's suggestion of this one from Rebel Minis as a Devourer:

$9.99 from http://www.rebelminis.com/spiderbug.html

  • I don't suffer from insanity. I ENJOY it!
I decided to go with 77230: Ankheg from Reaper for the Destroyer:

http://www.reapermini.com/OnlineStore/ankheg/latest/77230

03773: Giant Centipedes (2) for the Amplipedes:

http://www.reapermini.com/OnlineStore/centipede/sku-down/03773

and 77371: Basilisk for the Basilisk:

http://www.reapermini.com/OnlineStore/basilisk/sku-down/77371

I went with Reaper since they are US and therefore a local for me, but since I am a completist, if Northstar were to release "official" minis, I would get them to complete my collection. If I were in the UK or Europe, I would probably go with Otherworld minis:

DM28 – Basilisk:

DV1a – Giant Centipedes (4):

http://otherworldminiatures.co.uk/shop/dungeon-vermon/dv1a-giant-centipedes-4/

DM21a – Carcass Scavenger I:

If like me you have a lot of Cthulhu Wars miniatures, you could use:

Devourer : Rhan Tegoth (form the Windwalker expension)

Giant Worm: a Dhole

Slime : a Shoggoth

Basilisk: Bokrug

Monkey-Demon : a Ghoul
