Hollywood NAM.

A light hearted look at running a "Platoon" force.

I like the Platoon list for Chain of Command. It looks like fun to run.

I like it, well done.  :)

'Ranking Junior Leader' for the LT? Junior Leaders can only activate the section/squad they belong to and nothing else, while Senior Leaders can activate any. Unless it's a typo, I see where you're going with that, but it might be better to have an 'Inferior Senior Leader' with just two CI if you want to represent a 'Green LT'. That would also result in Barnes doing the heavy lifting as an ordinary SL.

*Edit*:- You could class Red O'Neil as just a rifleman too, and have his squad as leaderless. It would balance against Elias's SL status and reflect the time O'Neil spent keeping himself safe and leading from the rear.

Nice work!

A few quibbles.

Your Australian platoon is missing a signaller and a batman/runner at PHQ.   The runner might be omitted but the platoon signaller wouldn't.

Nine man section was more typical than 10. Delete No4 rifleman.

Not sure the Carl Gustav was used operationally* and would have been field by the AT platoon in support company. There was some use of the US 90mm but mostly either as a defence asset at fire bases or more rarely on operations against known bunker systems. The AT platoon was more often used to field tracker teams with sniffer dogs.

I'm not sure how CoC deals with engineering assets or labels them but the most common engineering support would be engineer splinter teams, anywhere between 2-4 men and kitted for whatever the task was at hand typically mine clearance or demolition. Flamethrower use was quite rare and apart from burning off scrub to clear fields of fire, I can only think of the example of Coral/Balmoral where they were used in an offensive sense.

There were no snipers as part of any battalion structure in Vietnam. They are a late 1970s/'80s addition.

*Allegedly Sweden refused to supply ammunition as it was opposed to the conflict in Vietnam.

Thanks for the feedback/suggestions gents.

Always appreciated.

Firstly Arlequín,
Inferior Senior Leader is definately what it should have been.  Details updated.  I have also adjusted Red to an Inferior Junior Leader with 1 command initiative.

Secondly Carlos,
The Gustav was supposed to be removed as you stated no ammo was available.  Sniper has also been removed.
I have left the platoon size as 10 however players can drop this if they wish.
I have also left the 90mm as it can only be used for base defense.  The flamethrower is also conditional.
Re: Signaler and Batman, these are deemed to be included as part of the HQ leaders in the rules which is why they were left out.  Engineer teams in the game are only available to complete engineering tasks.

Thanks again gentlemen for the suggestions.

Cheers
Jason

I thought that was likely to be the case... it seemed off in comparison to the other stuff you've done.

CoC typically does leave out runners, but the radio op is a combatant. From a game point of view a 'team' of Lt and Radio Op makes the platoon leader less vulnerable when he's not actually with a squad. If the team took a 'hit' the Lt becomes the casualty on a roll of '1' (the number of hits the team takes), otherwise its the Radio Op; obviously the Lt on his own is automatically the casualty. So it does make sense to have him.
