28mm fortified manor house/church stronghold
« on: August 11, 2016, 02:25:01 PM »
Hi all...Well it's been a long time in the making, but here are a few teaser pics of my fortified manor house/church.
As usual materials are foam core cardboard and craft sticks.
These shots are just of the outside...but yes, there is an interior as well...I will post those shots as soon as i am finished detailing it.

The portcullis is moveable and the hatch on the roof of the tower will be hinged as well.
Let me know what y'all think...ANY criticism is welcome.
Cheers,
Carl

Very nice. Only C&C would be the flat aspect of the printed roof sections. Small quibble though  :D

Hey thanks Dozing Dragon...these pics don't show it very well...but the roof is actually layered cardboard..I'll post closer shots soon.
I still have the interior to paint so I will show closer pics then......Maybe I'll have to try and bring it out with a little paint detail.
Cheers

Hey!!!!!!
Thanx guys...I may airbrush a hint of brown over everything (maybe the easiest way for me atm)....maybe...lol this project has taken it's till on me tho and am almost done with the interior....I know the color is a bit dreary....but after stopping mid project to replace/rebuild the tall tower section...I'm just ready for it to be done....
This is the largest project to date...and I made soooo many mistakes and learned sooooo much about myself to boot lol...

I really appreciate your comments...and bow to the superior intellect I find so invigorating on THIS site!!

You all really do the rest of our modeling world a great service.
Humakt...yes, I did scribe all the stonework into the foam...was a bit daunting, but with the right background music...i just went like the energizer bunny!!
Thank yuo again!!
Cheers,
Carl

You could try pastels first before committing to the airbrush. Various shades of brown and tan should do for starters  :)

That's a dandy idea James...I do have a hand full of tertiary pastels that have been sitting in a drawer for years...

Looking good - I particularly like the lead lined roof sections.

why? There are stone buildings that colour all around here. Why chance wrecking all your hard work.

So that it looks better?
 :)

All the medieval period buildings that I have seen are not 'that' kind of grey, but have many other shades, mostly browns, in their make up.
By stone buildings 'around here', I take it you mean in Australia?
They are not really going to be representative of anything that is proposing to 'look' medieval (albeit fantasy in a lot of cases) but would have been built in a much more modern age.

The flat grey scheme, that seems fairly common as it is easy to do, is fine if that is what you are aiming for and it suits your needs, but if you want something to look 'real' then that is not really the correct approach.

The modeller is more than capable and I reckon it will serve him well and do the model justice to re-think the colour.

Seconded!

That may well have been the case, but I hardly think that they used stones that were taken from actual medieval-era European buildings as ballast in ships several hundred years later.....

Calm it down chaps.

Roadskare63 asked for constructive criticism and received it. If you want to argue about stone colours for fantasy buildings then take it to pm please.

cheers

Nice building there roadskare63!

Indeed it is.
Great use of materials in almost a 'Hirst Arts' style.

I like it a lot.

WOW!!
Hey all, I GREATLY appreciate all of your thoughts, criticisms, and compliments!!!

I think I may add a little more color to it just to break it up a little from being too monochrome...make it a little more interesting to the eye.

No fighting please...lol we are ALL here to enjoy this neat hobby we have, and I'd hate to be rootedly responsible for starting a quarrel between any of you all.

I will be posting more pics...and hopefully better quality pics as well after I finish the Interior in another few days.

Again, I TRULY appreciate you all and this site.

Cheers,
Carl
