Mongols using Soldiers of God
« on: 17 August 2016, 07:29:48 PM »
Some of us have been playing quite a bit of Soldiers of God recently at the Tring Wargames Club and we had the bright idea ??? of using the rules for the Mongol Invasion of Russia. After all, all the troop types we needed were represented within the rules so it was just a case of putting army lists together.

We tried a game at the club last week and the result is now up on the blog http://tringwargames.blogspot.co.uk/

Great AAR and nice to see that the rules can be adapted so well to other theatres.

It's working well for us. The Rus use the Crusader cards and the Mongols use the Saracen ones. The only ammendment we have made, so far, is to allow the Mongol to swap one March or Loose order in their Battle Plan for an Advance, Loose, Retire.

Does that mean you allow them 3, in a Hold and Harry or Advance and Harry?

No, only in Battle Plans that do not already have that option.

Along these lines, I was considering allowing both sides to create whatever battle plan they wished. Simply let them take whatever three cards they liked and call that a plan (would just need to work out an initiative score for each card, maybe 1, 0, or -1 depending on how attacking the card feels).
