Anyone do 1970's-1990's Queen's Lifeguard 28mm figures?
« on: September 07, 2016, 07:14:35 PM »
Hi learned LAFers,

I am putting some groups together for 7TV and one faction i'd love to put on the table are some armed Queen's Lifeguards (think red coated soldiers in busby's at Buckingham Palace).

Any thoughts/leads appreciated!
thank you
Simon

The Life Guards are the cavalry regiment with the shiny helmets.  I don't know anyone who makes them, but Matchlock Miniatures (Minifigs) has some Grenadier Guardsmen with SLRs and Sterlings, in either cap or bearskin, in its Winter of '79 range: note, however, that while they are otherwise in ceremonial uniforms, they are wearing more kit with it than they normally would.

Back from the dead, almost.

Are the Life Guards (the cuirassier like cavalry) wearing a combat uniform from an earlier era?

The Bearskins of the foot guards I would think are Napoleonic Era, and the Cuirassier look of the Life Guards looks similar, but I didn't think there were British Cuirassier?

In answer to my own question, the cuirasses where from 1821, the helmet and jacket from 1850s.

Sorry for the hijack!

My friend did 23yrs in the life guards (he started in the old junior leaders) When they are not no ceremonial duties the LGs are usually deployed as a recce unit or in MBTs and are equipped just like the rest of the army. He served on Foxes, Chieftans, Chally 1 & 2s Scorpians Simitars and finally in the Strikers. In Gulf war the some of household Cavalry (including my mate) were attached to the 7th Armoured brigade in Chally 1s. In Gulf War 2 they used Simitar 1s & 2s with the bar armoured add on kits
