Plastic ponies in 28mm?

I'm going to be making some mounted warriors for my Welsh warband, and all I really need are the ponies. I'd prefer plastics, so does anyone know of a manufacturer who makes horses/ponies in 28mm scale? They really need to be a bit smaller than the Conquest plastic horses.

Or does anyone know how the horses from theWargames Factory, Perry and Warlord Games plastic ranges scale against the Conquest games horses? The LOTR ones from GW are almost exactly the same size as the Conquest ones.

The Conquest are slightly bigger overall but noticeably bigger (more barrel-like) at the girth.

Here's an old post of mine in which I compare a Conquest plastic Norman horse to a Perry metal WotR horse. You can see the difference in the girth. The WotR metal horses are usually the same proportions as their plastic.

Thanks, that's a good start. It always frustrates me that there's not more comparison shots of different manufacturers around, so it's nice to find when someone has taken the time and effort to compare them for us!

Cheers, a shame WGF isn't making models any more! How do the WGF ponies match the GB ones for size, out of curiosity? Great blog by the way, heaps of cool stuff Were you at Ragnarok the other weekend?

Wargames Factory states that Warlord distributes now, but I can't remember what the exact deal was.

Oh, fair enough. Yeah, I think there was going to be a deal between Warlord and whatever Chinese company bought out WGF, but I think the deal has subsequently been abandoned. Warlord is apparently selling single sprues of the Anglo Saxon Fyrd, but none of the other WGF offerings.

Fireforge also sell their un-barded medieval horses by the sprue. For ponies I think these would be the mounts to get but you would have to file the rope off the neck and sculpt tack.

Those Victrix Numidians would be perfect if they had the right tack, but alas, sculpting bridles is probably more work than I'm interested in.

Any idea how those Fireforge horses scale?

Fireforge horses are as big as Conquest.

wargames factory horses are smaller than all the other plastic horses out there, similar to gripping beast metal ponies for the irish and huns. I have a scale comparison I did several years ago here:

Cheers for the comparison shot, I think the WGF plastics will be the best bet for some little Welsh ponies Shame about the Victrix ones being so culturally unique, they would be good too, and still in production so that's a bonus!
