German question: 1000

I wonder if one of our German-speaking members could help me?  In the film title Das Die 1000 Augen des Dr Mabuse, would "1000" be pronounced as "tausend" or as "eintausend"?

Its always written
Die 1000 Augen...ask for fun my wife to read the title loud...sche also read Die tausend..
Same with my father...
Maybe its because we are living in Bavaria...there are grammatical differences...
Die eintausend is grammatical right but it sounds terrible...at last for my bavarian ears

I've most often seen it transliterated as "tausend", too, presumably due to the resulting smoother speech rhythm, and the point that the title is more figurative than literal (omnipresence rather than an exact number of eyes - for the latter, eintausend would be more fitting).

In English, I'd certainly opt for "The Thousand Eyes ...", rather than "The One Thousand Eyes" (for the same reasons as Chris), but I suspect a survey wouldn't be unanimous.

I agree with the "tausend" assessment. Generally speaking, you would only say "eintausend" in the context of other numbers of that magnitude, like when counting in thousands you would say "eintausend, zweitausend, dreitausend..." instead of "tausend, zweitausend, dreitausend...". Still, this is not hard rule.

It sounds like it works the same as in English, cherno.  I've put it under "T" (though at the same time, I've put the Japanese film 100 Shot, 100 Killed under "O" for "one hundred"*).  I hope I'll be able to find them when I need to refer to them for my spy-fi minis project.  That's still in the planning stages, though.


*If anyone cares, I alphabeticise using the original-language title if that language uses the Latin alphabet, and under an English title if it uses non-alphabetic script, like Chinese or Japanese.  I'm inconsistent about Cyrillic scripts and don't have any Arabic films.
