First 6mm Naps
« on: October 04, 2016, 12:00:20 AM »
Hi folks

I have recently returned to the hobby after 20 odd years out and am going with 6mm Napoleonics. Despite wanting the visual effect of large units, I still want to be able to show formations, so won't be going with the common (usual?) battalion bases. Here's my first effort: the 28th Foot at 1:10 figure ratio. It was my first painting at this scale and I'm quite pleased, although there's lots of room for improvement.

This forum seems very dominated by 28mm. Are there 6mm fans here too? How do we encourage more 6mm posts to go alongside the gorgeous 28mm stuff that's posted? I need inspiration!

cheers

Mike

Wow, that looks very nice, great work!
I don't have any 6mm figures but always found the scale appealing. I mainly game in 15mm, as I lean more towards skirmishes, but I've been pondering about getting some of the small guys for a while...

I'm afraid that 6mm is too small to paint 28 is more popular for the contrary reason  :D

Nice work especially after such a hobby gap! There are a few discerning fans of scales other than 28mm on here if you look carefully!

Great work - nice and crisp detail. I think that's the secret in 6mm.

28mm seems to dominate here IMO cuz of the visual effect of the figs. Great results can be had in that scale and it's great for unique stuff - as some checks of different threads will show. But for tabletop effect in a mass battle games, especially when painted by normal people, not the masters of the brush 15 and 6 mm look really good as well.

As Stalin said - quantity has a quality all of it's own.  8)

6mm Napoleonic fan here. Definitely keep the pictures coming. This stuff looks great. I like how you did the trousers. It appears that you painted them gray and then did a simple quick line of white. Very effective.

Thanks folks - very kind.

Dale - the trousers were painted in a medium grey over the black undercoat, leaving some black showing in places. Then I applied a few quick strokes of light grey on the front and back of the legs by way of a highlight. Pretty rough and quick but makes quite a difference.
