Question about Frostgrave soldier kit sprue (scroll pouch)

One of the bits within the Frostgrave soldier kit is a scroll pouch.  On the Northstar Magazine website, showing painted examples of the miniatures, the middle "scroll" is consistently painted dark brown.  I had originally thought that it was another scroll, but is it supposed to be some sort of wooden handle, or something like that?  A minor issue, but it's bugging me.

I think that it's representitive of the fancier scrolls, where it's a wooden dowel the parchment is attached to that serves as a handle for the rest which wraps around it.
