Mantic TWD All Out War
« on: 30 October 2016, 09:35:27 PM »
I got my KS box yesterday and had a first go at painting the figures today. Gotta say I'm very please with the quality this time. Certainly better than Dungeon Saga!
Some details a wee bit on the shallow side but others are really well crisp.
All in all excellent gaming figures imho. Kudos to Mantic.

Nice paint job!
I'm thinking of having mine painted in shades of grey to stay true to the comics (and it's much faster)
Hope to get mine soon
Yearly painting challenges only show me how useless I am at painting...

That's not hard. I'm pretty sure I've seen gravel with better detail than the DS minis.

Nice painting on Rick, you really captured the muted browns of his uniform and the dark bloodstain looks absolutely genuine.

Very nice painting (and yes, scenery), your painting style suits this genre very much. Lovely inspiration.

Beautiful looking board and minis. I'm painting my set bit by bit but nowhere near this standard.

How did you weather the die-cast type cars in there? I've tried washes before but they don't seem to adhere right. Is it just a case of Matt varnishing first?

Lovely. When I'm rich with vast amounts of storage space I'm going to get loads of that 4ground stuff.

Where are the dead dead corpses in that pic from?

Can't speak for the poster's approach, but my toy car weathering approach is:

- take the thing apart if possible
- matt varnish the outside. This will frost the windows if they're still in the car, and is the main reason I dismantle it first. The other big reason is that it lets me get at the wheels and wheel wells more easily
- use washes to tone things back and force some shadows, then cheap craft paints and sponge to weather the crap out of everything ;D
- put the car back together. I also glue the wheels in place, but that's as much to stop them rolling about in storage as anything

The game looks fun though. I avoided the KS, now just need to talk myself out of buying it at retail :) I'm hoping that the figures will be released separately, as there are some I'd definitely like to get.

I've only painted minis, the scenery is from the guys over at Beasts of War.
But Matt Varnish was certainly involved. Check their vlogs, they've made some tutorials for this!

The weekend was a blast and the 4Ground terrain is just a dream  :-*
