Due to camera angles and getting toasted by dragon fire last outing the dwarves didn't get much camera time.
So here they are looking all stubborn.

Don't worry, reinforcements are on the bench and almost done.  :)

Lots done over the Christmas holiday!

The Legions of Angmar are boosted with a Fellbeast/Werewolf:

They also get a third unit of Orcs, this one sporting a banner:

And the Elves get a mob of stealthily cloaked archers:

Great work, and many thanks for the inspiration you've provided. I like your choice of era for the setting as well.

Nice start to a project.  It also highlights why I think Dragon Rampant is such a superb little set of rules.  It really does make it worthwhile to dig up old miniatures or unplayed with miniatures etc. and simply throw them on the table and have a good quick game.  That is the strength of that product I feel.

Absolutely agree. DR have provided me the toolkit to do the fantasy gaming & campaigning I want from my own ideas, and in turn TMWWBK has done likewise for some of the VSF ideas I have.

LOVE your painting - those shield designs are especially beautiful!

And good to see the old Vendel figures in action!

Awesome stuff mate!

Those Vendel Miniatures really do convey a more of the "books LotR" feeling than the GW ones.

I echo the previous posters' comments, those vendel minis really look the part! They've got a good mix of dark ages reality with just the right amount of fantasy.
Adventures? Nasty disturbing uncomfortable things! Make you late for dinner!

Yes.  That is why I love the Vendel figures and why I have avoided most fantasy games.
WFB and it's ilk just bug the crap out of me with all the spikes and skulls and really stupid looking shields.

Those Vendel figures are fantastic for my mental image of Middle Earth, I bought loads of them when they were first released. Although wargaming megalomania set in and I've since added a whole load of other manufacturers orcs, about 90% of my Dwarf army is still Vendel. I know what you mean about GW, a few years back we staged a big Middle Earth game with about 2000 metal figures and not a single Warhammer figure on the table.

Finished my 4th Uruk unit. Light foot with missiles.
I had a stroke of inspiration for the banner. Here it is pre folding:

And here's everything I've painted up for the Forces of Angmar since I started this project in September:

Wave three will be Wolf Riders, goblin skirmishers and some big Trolls.
