You should do a little research before investing your money, so you don't come out disappointed.
Watch reviews of the previous books on youtube, some of them go page by page.

This. My Chronomancer warband has a caveman from the distant past and a lasgun wielding "counts as crossbow" marksman from the far future, because I had the models sitting around.

Seriously, if you're expecting this game to hold your hand and make all your decisions for you, you've picked up the wrong game.

Well, he is a Chronomancer after all. Time travel and such :)

Where can that illustration be found?

I can see both sides of this.  A lot of folks want a game which is fully supported with X models for X characters, etc.  That being said, a quick glance at any reviews etc. and it would be apparent this is a ruleset.

I'm not a big Frostgrave fan, but the main reason I bought the rulebook was because I have a ton of dungeon minis/terrain sitting around.  It never hurts to spend $18 to expand the possibilities of using your figures/miniatures.  I think it's one of the strongest arguments for many "areas" of miniature gaming.

I finally was able to read through my book last night. I will say that I am not necessarily disappointed with the book or content. I am more disappointed with the bloat that is coming into the game. While the rules still remain simple, it is becoming worse than Games Workshop when it comes to where rules are located. I have to carry four books to a game not to mention a tablet or print out for the mini expansions. It would be nice if there was at least an index that says rule X or soldier Y is located on page ZZ of book AA. I think it would be nice if everything was compiled into one revised core book. Then from there make expansions that focus on a wizard type, soldiers, bestiary, treasures, or scenarios instead of having a bit of everything in each expansion. Then all the rules for a specific subject would be all together in one place.

I would definitely like a full rules compilation eventually. Like the Folio coming out but for everything "official" plus some extra tidbits. I would pay for that.

It's all about expectations - if you just want a box set from which you can build a cool warband, then they're great, but if you bought the plastics thinkng the figures would play an integral part in the scenarios, then it's understandable that you' be put out.
I think this was my only (minor) complaint in the supplements.  I wish they had made more use of the associated new box set in the scenarios.

That said, when I first read the bestiary in the Forgotten Pacts book I was a little annoyed at the new demons.  Up to this point, the creatures from the bestiary have been fairly generic fantasy and easy to source miniatures for.  Undead, wild animals, and other common fantasy types.  The demons in this supplement, though, were all fairly unique and uncommon as described.  A demon turtle with crab claws?  A half-humanoid half-centipede greater demon with matching lesser demons?  Where was I supposed to find something like that!  Then I realized that the appearance as described didn't matter at all, and I could just pick a minature I like and plug it into the game.  My annoyance disappeared as if it was never there!   ;)

Yeah, me too. For example, I'm thinking Nurgle demons for the Failing Wretches.
