Gabbi looking for trouble in the frozen lands.
« on: 20 November 2016, 01:06:31 PM »
I'm building a Mausoleum for the scenario of same name, and I thought that instead of opening a dedicated thread, I'd better start a Frostgrave-related one and gather here all my Frostgravery, like so many LAF users have done before me.

So let's start by gathering what I've previously posted:

Ok, here it is, what I've achieved today:

It's a basic structure built out of foamcore, to be used in the Mausoleum scenario. Construction has been quite straightforward, as I kept the building simple. Albeit a bit silly, it has four doors, one on each wall, as per scenario requirement.

To do:

Add a few more details:
-door frames. maybe some paneling on the doors? as they are they're too flat and plain, isn't it?
-maybe something on the facade over the door (a cross? some blasphemous god's tentacled head? in this case, how? or maybe a skull? no this is no warhammer)
-a semispheric cupola on the centre of the roof (if I find a suitable ball)
-also, I plan to weather and ruin a bit the whole building.
Maybe I'll make a base for it.

Then I'll paint it, mostly grey. I think I'll have to protect the exposed foam with PVA glue if I'm going to use spray cans, right?

Yes to all of your queries.

You can get some reliefs for the walls by using shields, or check out the various Pulp ranges for blasphemous deities - also Copplestone does some 15mm statues in resin that would be suitable.

WRT the foam board YES, coat it in something. I use textured masonry paint, not only does it seal in the edges which will be melted by sprays, but it helps cover up the joints and provides texture to the large flat surfaces.

Thanks for reply and suggestions :)

Wouldn't that be too coarse for scale models? I was planning to use a textured spray paint, so I'll have to seal the foamcore before. But will check masonry paint as an alternative. Thanks!

Mausoleum almost completed:

I'm just thinking if could be worth adding a further square of foamcore beneath it, just a tad bigger, to add kinda of another step to the structure.
Other than that, I'd consider it ready for paint  :)

Nope !
Looks just fine.
If you are worried, you can water it down as well.

Wizard painted for a friend, and a Black Orc I had previously painted I'll give him to be used as Captain (he decided to go for a Orcs theme, obviously).

Crumble spell:

The idea is not mine, I do not remember where I saw it -so can I give credit to the original author- maybe it was BGG, maybe Fb page. Anyway, I love it!
Sure, it doesn’t work equally well everywhere, it needs a smooth wall for the “door” to lean on, but in general, the effect looks more than convincing to me.
