Some Dredd-ful painting! New Pics 11 Feb 17
« on: 07 December 2016, 10:21:39 AM »
Hi,
All the discussion about the end of the Warlord/Dredd minis line has inspired me to start painting my Dredd stockpile.  Here are a couple of pics of what I've done so far.  All of the figures are Wargames Foundry except for Walter, who is Warlord/Mongoose.

Top row Foundry Judge Dredd 1, Judge Anderson, Warlord/Mongoose Walter the Wobot.
Bottom row Foundry Judge Hershey, Judge Giant.

All the best,
George.

Fantastic stuff.

What colours did you use? I want to attempt to emulate what you've done here.

Hi Folks,
Many thanks for your kind compliments.  In answer to how I painted the judges here's my method:
Undercoat:  GW Abbaddon Black
Uniform:  Heavy drybrush of Vallejo German Grey over entire figure followed by a heavier drybrush/wetbrush of GW Shadow Grey on the leather portions of the uniform only (so the helmet is only highlighted with German Grey).
Boots, belt, knee and elbow pads:  Base of GW Dark Angels Green, followed by heavy drybrush/ wetbrush of GW Snot Green then dry brush of GW Goblin Green.
Helmet trim and red stripes on belt buckle:  base of GW Mechrite Red followed by main colour of GW Wazdaka Red
White stripes in belt buckle:  Vallejo White
Nightstick:  GW Rhinox Hide followed by main color Vallejo Flat Earth .
Flesh:  Base of GW Rhinox Hide, then main colour Vallejo Sunny Skin Tone, final highlights with GW Elf Flesh or Vallejo Sunny Skin Tone mixed with a little white.
Lips:  Army Painter Barbarian Flesh
Lawgiver:  base GW Abbadon Black, then highlight with Vallejo German Grey then final highlight of Vallejo German Grey mixed with a little GW Leadbelcher.
Shoulder pad, eagle and belt buckle surround:  base of Vallejo Game Colour Glorious Gold, highlighted with a mix of Vallejo Glorious Gold and GW Mithril Silver.

When the painting was complete, the whole figure was washed with Johnson's Future (Klear) acrylic floor polish (old clear formulation)  with 50 - 60  drops of Windsor and Newton black ink per 50 ml of Future.  Excess wash was wicked off with a clean paintbrush to minimise pooling and re-highlighting done if necessary.

Hope this helps.
All the best,
George.

I've taken a bit of a break from painting my Dredd figs to do a Pulp City superhero team.  With them finished I've returned to Dredd again.  Here's my latest piece, Fergee, hero of "The Day the Law Died".  He's a great fig, very redolent of the character and I really enjoyed doing him.  Next to do is one of the other great heroes of the story, Judge Tutor Griffin.

Latest additions to my JD collection, Judge Tutor Griffin and 2 street judges from the Judge Cal's retinue set.  I really enjoyed doing these and the street judge with lawgiver is one of my favourites.
