Storing Future Projects?

How do you guys store future projects acceptably so they don't get all mixed up? I've got bitz boxes made from electrical component containers but even they don't have the number I need to store everything altogether.

Ziplock bags?

Small ones for the loose bits and then put the lot together in a larger one?  I've done this with figures and odd terrain items but not larger buildings.

I use a combination of small ziploc bags (from Michaels/Hobby Lobby, in the beading section) and Plano flat compartmented storage boxes. Sets of parts that need to stay together go in the bags, and projects are organized by storage box.

They will get mixed up what ever you do.  You will change your mind and decide X goes with A, not Y, then you'll swap them around.  You will use bits for other projects and you won't replace them.  You'll sit for hours going through countless bags looking at figures and planning future projects instead of painting current projects.
Then after a few years you'll decide that you'll never paint them and sell them for 30%-50% of what you paid for them.
Therefore I recommend that the best way to store future projects is at the retailer's.

What is a future project? 

If I have the models then it is a current project - or more accurately an unfinished project.  I don't think I have a single completed project.  I constantly add bits and pieces.  That is the great beauty of this hobby.

All my future projects are in my mind, in adverts, at the shop or not even thought of yet.  And long may it continue.

Seriously Ebay or some other method of disposal, that's what I do every 5-10 years and l feel so much better when they are all gone.
My last big sell off was in 2012 the money I raised went some way to paying for a family holiday.
I've currently a moratorium on buying new stuff until I paint what I've got.  When that's done I can either add to what I already have or start and more importantly finish something new.

I have a few cabinets that normally hold scews and stuff eg - https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B000PJDUEY/ref=oss_product, with the figures roughly grouped in drawers according to type.

However, this is just for loose figures, and if anything comes in its own box then I just try and find space in a cupboard for it. When I run out of space then I move stuff to the loft, where I forget about it, only to stumble across it six months later.

Okay, not as much help as I thought I was going to be, sorry . However, for loose figures, the cabinets are handy. The Really Useful plastic boxes are probably worth considering, in terms of grouping stuff together. They come in a bunch of different sizes and stack together pretty easily.

I use paper storage boxes from an office supply store. There is a place to add a label for the project which can be replaced when the next project goes in it. I have about 5 that I rotate. Then I play 15mm or skirmish, so most projects fit with room to spare.

If you're in the UK, perhaps you can join the Really Useful Box Mafia. The boxes are very strong, often available as part of deals from DIY shops and large supermarkets, stack in a variety of ways and you can buy all sorts of stacking trays and inserts to subdivide each box. You can put half-finished bits and pieces in thier own tray compartment or in a big stack of bags in one of the larger boxes (like I all to often do).

RUB's are also available in the US from Staples and other stores (at least in the midwest).  There is a Really Useful Box warehouse/manufacturing site in Illinois.  I am using them for a lot of my miniature storage.

A4 box files, though i take them out of packaging sort into units, you must fondle the lead
