Future Wars Rules - any copies out there?
« on: February 18, 2009, 02:11:49 PM »
I lost my copy of the 'Copplestone' Future Wars rules.

Anyone got a set to sell OR know where I can get them (for less than £10 plus p&p)?

Thanks

"Combat Zone Gamers' Edition" (only rules) cost £7

No -

CZ from EM4 (£7 for rules, £15 for rules plus 30 plastics or £25 for rules plus 10 painted metal minatures)

FW from Copplestone.  £10 for rules.

Same type of game in terms of settng but quite different in gaming respects.

Got those - thanks.

No, FW have got a picture of some Biohazard miniatures (I think) outside a ropey looking bit of scenery.  :)

Future Wars was written by Chris Peers. Aside from the "convenience" of printing through HLBS, he had no association with them. As of a couple years ago, Chris does not publish through HLBS any more. I believe everything is now self-published and then sold through various distributors, when he decides to make print runs, etc.

I think you're right there.  Must explain why you can't get them through Copplestone anymore.

Those are the Kill Zone rules, the rules all those lovely Grenadier Future Wars models were made for. AFAIK Combat Zone is a bit what "Kill Zone 2" could have been. A lot of basics are similar and there are some changes, some of the people involved are also the same if I'm not mistaken: Derek Mugridge was playtester for Kill Zone and co-wrote Combat Zone with Robin Dear, Doug playtested Kill Zone and now sells Combat Zone. Future Wars was written by Chris Peers and I think it was written to support Copplestone's Future Wars range (which was an adaptation of the Grenadier Future Wars range), I don't know if Copplestone has any involvement in the rules of Future Wars.

I personally know nothing of Future Wars and the only thing I have heard is that the layout is so unclear that it's hard to read. As for the actual system I believe it's pretty simple, about the same level of complexity as Combat Zone or Kill Zone, but without the support that Combat Zone enjoys.

Chris Peers says in the intro that the rules were inspired by the Copplestone Casting figures and Mark shared someof his ideas with him but they are designed for any figures.
The rules use alot of the same mechanics as "At Close Quarters" (also written by Chris). I can't say that I found the layout unclear.
I don\'t know whether to be a good example or a horrible warning.
