Saga A&A: Aetius and his buddys (updated 04/06/2017)

I loved the campaign rule for the Saga Aetius&Arthur, so I have decided to start a Saga's late romans band.

Excellent work on these - have you seen some of the recent releases from Saxon Miniatures.   The 'greens' on their Facebook page of Arthur's knights are ideal later Roman boukellarii - suitable as a mounted version of Aetius (maybe with some Hunnic hearthguards)?   See recent post on this Forum.

Very nice! The dotted yellow embroidery really strikes me, very nice touch. And the jewel on the helmet really stands out as a jewel

For Hunnic guard, I can't recommend Aventine enough. If you are interested in Hunnic guard on foot, I'd recommend Fire Forge Steppe Warriors, they're a little later in the Medieval period as they're supposed to be Mongols, but I can't see that there would be such a big change in attire for steppe peoples. I could, as always, be wrong. I use them as Huns on foot. Why? Because I need Huns on foot for Nibelungen battles in the Great Hall or defending a village, for instance. No one makes Huns on foot, so Fire Forge is a great proxy. They would work for your Aetius, too.

I just finished 4 new minis for my Saga army who can be played with the others 4 like 1 Warrior's point or as a second point of Hearthguards. In any case, they belong to a vexillatio  from the Legio Palatina Herculiani Seniores:







And, for last, the unavoidable (aesthetically speaking  ) manuballistae who will belong to my Levy's first point:

I'm particularly impressed with the bold use of colour on the ballista. I wasn't aware of evidence to suggest they were painted - is your choice based on anything or more of a what-the-hell decision?
Either way, I think it looks great and looks 'right'. So who cares, huh?

Hi,
I like to investigate (a lot...) before beginning to paint and I confess you that I didn't can find any proof either for or against. BUT  if we are all OK with the foolish idea that all the shields were painted even if they will be seriously dammaged in battle, why not the artillery which were less inclined to be dammaged?
