This Boxing Day I backed Oathsworn Miniatures' Burrows & Badgers "New Blood" campaign. Having backed their previous campaigns I already had quite a few of their anthropomorphic characters languishing in the lead pile, so thought I'd use the start of the new year to remedy this and paint some of the blighters up!

First off we have Nate the Wanderer, mouse hedge knight:

Next is Bulwort Cruelblade, black rat assassin:

Awesome! As a fan of Mouseguard, I'm often thinking about this sort of project!

Thanks both! I can't recommend this range enough. Granted it's pretty niche, but for anyone whose a fan of Mouseguard or Redwall, they're great. Nice crisp casts,  with a minimum amount of flash and mould lines. To be honest I've never been much of a painter, but these little guys pretty much paint themselves. They've got the right amount of detail and character without being too overly detailed, which is a problem I have with some modern miniatures.

Still need to finish the bases on these guys, am waiting for an order of grass tufts to arrive. I've got another mouse, as well as a weasel and a rat on the go, so should be able to post them up next week.

Excellent. I bought a load of this at Salute last year, since when I've not touched them. Now I feel all inspired.

Bulwort looks like a real bad boy (rat).
Lots of character and great painting. Like him!

Thanks all, you're too kind!

As the sculptor has done such a good job of capturing the animals' characteristics, I've tried as best I can to paint them as true to life as possible - or as true to life as you can get for a pair of rodents wandering around waving swords and cleavers!

I've just finished the second mouse and have nearly finished the weasel. Should be able to post some more pics up by the end of the week.

Across the lea, beneath the leaves,
When countrylands wake up to spring,
Hurrah here comes the Prince of Thieves,
Here every small bird sing.
So daring and so handsome too,
He makes a wondrous sight,
But if he comes to visit you,
Lock up your treasures tight!

Another of Oathsworn Miniatures’ splendid Burrows & Badgers range. This time it’s Gromley the Mouse-Burglar. However for me, as a fan of Brian Jacques’ Redwall series, he’s of course Gonff the Mousethief, staunch companion of Martin the Warrior and scourge of larders everywhere!

Hope you like him. More to follow as I’m rattling through them at the moment, (three painted in 2017 already – an unheard level of productivity for me!).

So, away, through the grass, the flow’rs and leaves,
Like smoke on the breeze, the Prince of Thieves.

Now I just have to get around to painting the rest of mine too...  :(
