I amlooking at three new to me foam trays and wondered who can comment.

 

I have used historically three types of foam trays (plus the odd pick and pluck ones for odd sizes figures) of “F” format that’s has 52mm x 32mm compartments for larger legacy figures, “N” format that is 25mm x 50mm for cavalry – it can in a pinch hold 2 of my 25mm legacy circular bases or 2 of my standard bases (3/4″ square and 20mm circle) – plus “M” format that can hold 1 x 25mm circle or 2 x 20mm circle or 2 x 3/4″ squares.

Now I am looking at the “P” and the “Q” formats but most importantly is the “R” format which has 20mm x 20mm compartments.  Four trays could hold up to 384 bases figures in 23mm depth.

My concern is how the foam may impact figures that may slightly extend beyond the 20mm dimension (spears, pikes, arms spread open, etc.,) in storage.  Anyone use the “R” format foam?

What did you observe with figures that push the foam out slightly?  Any wear on the paint?

Let me point out that I have never had a problem with KR multicast foam but I am still suffering from the residue of professional level paranoia in these first few weeks of retirement from the DOD/IC arena.

Good question.  I do find that various foam companies produce harsher or less-harsh foam...and some (like Battlefoam) inexplicably place hard compressed surfaces on the bottom of the foam (which in turn scrapes/bends/breaks items in the sleeve below).  I'm always on the lookout for solutions and would have owned some KR stuff by now but their website is atrocious...it's sadly become almost a joke in the industry (despite the products themselves being top notch).

Yes, it is a struggle to use the website due to the complexity of choices they have (though a better online "solution" would go a long way to solving that IMO) but I like the product quality to the tune of 44 cases currently plus more coming or planned - 16 more) so I just deal with it.  Continuity and CDO (alphabetized OCD) have nothing to do with that I am sure.
