Steve, you have forgotten the evil master - Sgt. Barnes. He is a must. Still after more than ten times watching the movie I hate him, but he is important.

He's there Dirk, top of the list of characters    .  Under my RPG-like system, he's pretty powerful, as he should be ("only Barnes can kill Barnes").

I'm starting on making the supporting characters first, just in case I make stupid mistakes.

It's Mason's fault for suggesting that my The North river system would provide a good basis for a jungle. That, and Platoon is to me what Star Wars seems to be to those LAFers a bit younger!

Btw, this morning the test purchase of 10 palm trees arrived from China. Very nice they are, so I've ordered another 30 ..... which cost a not-wallet-busting slightly-less-than £10 including postage. I'd have been tempted to buy more but I wanted to be sure to clear the £15 postal import hurdle.

Btw, this morning the test purchase of 10 palm trees arrived from China. Very nice they are, so I've ordered another 30 ..... which cost a not-wallet-busting slightly-less-than £10 including postage. I'd have been tempted to buy more but I wanted to be sure to clear the £15 postal import hurdle.

You can also use normal trees. Vietnam is not only palm trees. Palm trees are the most expansive trees in our hobby, don't know why

Yeah sure, I've got all my existing ones as well and I'm sure they'll find a home too. In fact, the jungle in the movie doesn't seem to have much in the way of palm. That said, I'm intending the landscape to be more like the scene around the destroyed church, where Elias dies, thus the palms:







The palms were surprisingly inexpensive.

A small update on this project

The project is a mash-up of Platoon and Full Metal Jacket. The latest conversion completed is the female VC sniper from FMJ, who uses a Perry ACW artillery body and various Warlord bits; she's about 26mm to the top of the head as posed. The first game will be the sniper hunting down the reduced-Platoon in the jungle.
