Nice job on those.  I like the greens, what did you use?

Thanks for the interest chaps  :D

There's plenty of opportunity to get distracted onto other things and it sometimes happens sooner than I'd planned but I'm hoping to stay the course with this one as I have a lot of motivational and directional material: movies, board game, etc.  ;)

Steve I'll add the specifics to the PLog in due course as I'll need the reference for later batches. There were a lot of mixes plus a GW wash (Earthshade), while the density of the paint also obviously makes a difference. In the meantime the colours used were:

Black Green
Camo Olive Green
Intermediate Green
Olive Green
US Dark Green
Yellow Green

All Vallejo Model Colour

My LAF Gallery is HERE
Minis (foot & mounted) finished in 2025 = 74
(2024 = 38; 2023 = 151; 2022 = 204; 2021 = 123; 2020 = ???)

Cheers Steve.  I've never been too happy with my tests to date but I think you've nailed what I've been after. You don't want them standing out too much.

US in Vietnam seems to be a really difficult colour match. I looked at the recommended colours on a few model kits but just didn't like them. They were probably right but they just didn't seem right. The other thing is that at 28mm unless the colour for uniform, weapons and equipment have clear differentiation, on the table the mini can end up looking like just a blob.  I'm still not sure if mine work as varnish will flatten them but will know soon. In any event the mixes aren't complicated, something like 1/3 of X to 2/3 of Y.

Now you need to extend your board with a river wide enough for a river monitor so sail up. And small VC village with a beach that is safe to surf.

I forgot to say, if you're encouraging me to add Apocalypse Now to the project then that really is a whole load of extra stuff! That said, the first game I'm planning is actually derived from The Boys From Company C, as it requires only the US Platoon, the existing terrain and some mine markers. They'll be crossing the board without tripping any boobytraps - think the paddy field scene in TBFCC - which should work as a solo game.

Paul: on the subject of fusion etc, it's off topic but I think I've finally found the basis for my 'feudal' PA project.... The 100. It will use this terrain and also the Project Z survivor minis from which the M16s and AK47s for this project were gleaned.  8)

They look the part, can't wait to see more. :)

I have enjoyed watching The 100. I can see this as a suitable project for you. ;)

I reckon the Warlord plastic Woodland Indians would be ideal donor bodies for these. ???

That is a great group shot!

Cheers chaps. Varnishing has taken an age but i just might get them flocked today in which case maybe the photos too.  I slowed up a bit because I also needed claymore, booby-trap and spider-hole markers for the impending 'patrol' game.

I struggled with the first episode but thereafter it got better and better. The degree of ruthlessness and morale compromise puts GoT in the shade. Now I've nearly finished Series 3. More on it later in the year.  ;)

The 100 didn't grab me, alas. Watched the first season - a bit too much teen angst, and not enough off-world sci-fi excitement...

Now working on my Pegasus palm trees. My God they take a lot of tidying up. Never seen so many extraneous bits of plastic requiring snipping! Tedious  :-[

I think for three quid each though, once painted, they're going to look pretty good.
The trouble with the eBay trees from China is you're never quite sure what you're going to get... Anyway, we shall see...  :)

Just wow, this is just my type of project, I love recreating characters in miniature, I have never modelled a Nam project before but love these movies, you've done a great job using the bolt action plastics, very creative, I would love to give this a go, I will be following, great work.

Photos.  :D

Firstly, as we've been talking palms, what they'll look like (albeit presently unpainted) with the existing boards when used to represent secondary jungle:

The minis haven't photo'd well. We've changed over to LED bulbs that are great to paint by but once the minis are varnished seem to pick out shine and distort the extremes of colour. Not sure if I can do anything about.

For the 15 man patrol, the command elements comprising (from left): Doc (tall), Ace (short), Red (tall), Elias and Barnes:

First Squad under Elias comprises: Gator, King Pin (tall), Taylor, Big Harold (tall), Sandy (tall):

Second Squad under Red comprises: Ebenhoch, Rodriguez (short), Tex, Francis, Bunny:

Casualties will need to be recovered, thus some markers:

And finally, the VC Sniper from FMJ, now in the jungle:
