Can you double unit size in The Men Who Would Be Kings?
« on: 25 February 2017, 04:03:56 PM »
I'm planning on getting these rules.

I'm just wondering how the rules play for larger games. Can you double the size of the units and the game still work just as well, has anybody tried?

Thanks.

I assume you are thinking of still counting each figure for shooting or melee, and having a wound?

I think the main mechanism that would be problamtic is the Pinning test, as this is modified by the casualties caused, so units would be much more likely to become pinned as they will be suffering more casualties from an attack.

I suspect it would be better to go with slightly bigger units and / or more units.

I've not tried doubling the unit size; as Fred said, the main issue would be the Pinning Test. I guess that if you modified the dice roll by -1 for every 2 casualties, instead of each casualty, it would work OK.

The rules work very well for much larger games using normal sized units with very few tweaks needed. The main change we made was to ignore unit leader traits (but added Force/Brigade Commanders instead)

modifying the dice roll by -1 for 2 casualties, instead of each casualty makes sense, thanks.
