The luck of Le Longue Baguette. A M&T scenario.
« on: March 08, 2017, 10:39:36 AM »

Fresh from burning Bibbly's Brewery, ( See here: http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=91833.0 )
Henri le Longue Baguette and his mixed force of Canadian Milice and Huron allies press their raid deeper into enemy country. They are intent on striking fear into the hearts of the British and colonial settlers. His next target is to be the sleepy settelment of Sharpes Town. Henri knows the further he moves into British territory the more he pushes his luck.

Unbeknown to Henri the British are aware of his intentions and have arranged a reception commiteee for him... The settlers have been evacuated to the nearby fort and local militia, Provincial troops and rangers have agreed to hold the settlement until a larger relief force of British regulars arrive.

But this time Henri has also increased the size of his force. He has a company of regular infantry from the Royal Rousillon regiment under the command of Capitan Armand Crossiant. Although they are making slower progress marching along the road. Will they arrive in time for Henri to carry the day...?

The settlement showing the initial positions of the British force. The french will attack from the right, crossing the river via a bridge and ford.

Rangers advance on the right flank

Provincials form a firing line, preparing to defend the bridge

The Militia form up opposite the ford, defending the fields and pig pen

In the distance the Canadian Milice appear in the woods and the Companie Franche prepare to cross the bridge

The Colonial Militia start firing on the Huron as they cross the river at the ford.

The Companie Franche cross the bridge taking fire from the Rangers who have advanced to meet them.

A quiet moment in the pumpkin patch...

More later :)

Crossing the river

Coming under fire from the Rangers, but they press forward

Which way are they going to go? Straight ahead maybe??

The Rangers pour fire into the brave Frenchies, but they keep going.

On the opposite flank the Huron advance across the river and begin to make their way forward taking advantage of the cover whilst the militia try to stop them.

The Huron are closing on the militia.

Defending the bacon Marky and Jimmy.

Meanwhile on the opposite side of the table the Provincials have blocked the road.

Combined musketry by the Companie Franche and the Milice is enough to see off the Rangers defending the bridge enabling the Marines to move behind the cornfield out of the way of the Provincials blocking the road.

Henri and his Milice seize the opportunity and rush across the now defenceless bridge.

But what's this? The sound of marching drums, the relief column has appeared: Twenty Redcoats, 10 Provincials, 8 Rangers and 12 Mohawk advance to the sound of the guns!

However the Huron have routed the militia, their better shooting and use of cover enabled them to take the flank quickly. They pour into the now undefended buildings setting everything ablaze.

Meamwhile the Redcoats continue their advance covered by more Rangers,

The Milice take up positions in the cornfield and a deadly firefight begins between the drilled regulars and the sharpshooting Milice.

However Capitan Armand Crossiant finally shows his hand bringing with him 30 men of the Royal Roussillon Regiment. But is he too late?

On they come, but are they too late?

The British enter the settlement, driving on whilst taking fire from the Milice in the corn fields and the Huron on their flank.

Discipline and numbers beging to tell. The Milice are routed as are the Huron, but not before the British firning line has been decimated.

Quelle Horreur! Henri is captured by the British Rangers. His Milice long since retired, he refuses to leave the field of honour and is taken hostage...

So the game drew to a close after six rounds. The result? Hard to call, the British lost the settlement, it was burned to the ground (which wasthe French objective) but they held the field at the end of the day and now have a hostage. Capitan Armand Crossiant was too late in bringing his regiment into play (He rolled a five so appeared during the fifth round whereas the British reinforcements arrived on turn four.)

But now we have the next chapter sorted. The Rescue of Le Longue Baguette... ;)
