Pulp Alley AAR: High Sierra Manhunt
« on: March 28, 2017, 07:39:44 PM »

[NEWS FLASH] Fugitive bank-robber and cop-killer Earl Roy Matson, also known as "Mad Dog" Matson, is in the headlines again tonight. Matson shot his way past a police roadblock outside Fresno, California, and was last seen in Lone Pine, where he stole another car and took a hostage, Ida Marie Puloni, a cafe waitress. Police fear Miss Puloni is in grave danger, and a state-wide manhunt is in progress. Authorities believe Matson is headed up into the High Sierra, hoping to throw off pursuit in the rugged mountain wilderness.

"High Sierra Manhunt" is a scenario for the Pulp Alley game which borrows some places, names, and situations from the classic film "High Sierra," but with a greatly simplified plot. As the game begins, the two rival Pulp Alley leagues learn from their sources that Matson may have holed up in a Forest Service observation tower, located just off a fire road in the vicinity of Mt. Dolorosa. With police closing in, the leagues have just enough time to try to pull off the rescue themselves, and claim the sizable reward for Matson's death or capture...

That's a very nice table--good to get out of the city every once in a while. It looks like you have a cobblestone mat covered strategically with green foam terrain pieces? And/or some felt?
I hope the fire-watcher got out safely! I was visualizing Jack Kerouac or Gary Snyder up there, though I guess they would have been a few years after the pulp era.

I hope the fire-watcher got out safely!

The mat is a 3'x3' mixed-terrain scene with some stone paving block roads running through variously rugged country, sold under the descriptive name "Dark Island."  Unadorned, it looks like this:

It's from Lukas Schmidt mats, about whom I can find no information.  I picked it up on sale at Noble Knight, along with a desert mat to replace my scuffed-up homemade one.
The tied-up fire-watch guy was actually represented by a mini in the bottom level, and was a recruitable bystander.  I completely forgot about him during the game, however.  I think he's still down there.

Great one! That Manhunt scenario can get pretty crazy at times. THANKS so much for playing and sharing Pulp Alley.  ;)
