Cernovich by Oscar Falk, on Flickr

Cybernetic implants enhance their users' abilities with anything from x-ray vision and heightened reflexes, to immense strength and increased cognitive functioning. Lobot gear, on the other hand, use a living brain to achieve enhanced computing power, leaving the subject reduced to a mindless automaton.

What kind of advantage does a lobot have to a conventional computer? Some say that lobots are more creative when solving problems, others that lobots have an edge considering emotional aspects when analyzing data. Lobots are seen as extremely safe, since they are impervious to hacking (but also fragile, since data recovery is impossible if the lobot ceases to live).

The lobot known as Cernovich worked for Far Trader Molox Blot, following her wherever she went, attending every meeting she held, always subtly consulting her. Rumour said that Cernovich was the true architect behind Molox Blot's massive financial gains. Earlier, Blot had been a low level trader, close to financial ruin. Soon after 'aquiring' Cernovich, she had made a string of good deals, landing her enough credits to pay for a Far Trader charter. Ever since, Molox Blot had been synonymous with 'great business'.

Cernovich and Molox Blot worked together for the rest of her (prolonged) life. After Blot's unexpected demise, every single heir flocked to her asteroid estate, only to find Cernovich and Blot's fortune missing. Where Cernovich has gone, no-one knows - but Blot's stellar yatch 'Ray of Light' was found abandoned at Perelandra Starport. Records show that a massive cargo hauler, 'The Salvation of Io', left for Golgotha Prime shortly after the 'Ray of Light' docked, carrying Crusty refugees and an unidentified human passenger with extensive cybernetic gear...

Thanks, friends! Your kind words warm my hobbyist heart!

I'm not back yet, we're moving in ten days. There's a lot of packing going on, but I had (almost) the entire story written back in March and took some photos back in November.

If I find time, there might be more stories coming!

Happy to help, Dan!

Thank you, Skully!

I love bright colours, and these two weren't meant to be a pair, but they have a common palette (snakebite leather, heavy goldbrown, shadow grey).

Super work my friend.
Thanks for showing us your latest work.

If you're after a " Lawrence of Arabia" vibe, then you should look at the other IF packs as they're all
great especially the bearded ones.

Re: [15mm] Ockman's Sci-fi, update 210327: Ertan Zilkov, taxi driver

Ertan Zilkov, taxi driver by Oscar Falk, on Flickr

Some say that in the grim darkness of United Government space, there is only war. Those who say that are dead wrong, for a number of reasons. First and foremost, the United Government was created to foster unity, peaceful conflict resolution, and development through exchange and co-operation. Second, even with clone vats, star forges and industrial worlds, it is logistically impossible to supply a perpetual, galaxy-spanning, total war. The truth is that the vast majority of the United Government population live their lives without ever experiencing armed conflict.

Even so, there is plenty of war, conflict and strife in the galaxy. Pirate fleets plague the colonies on the Fringe, alien raiders clash with United Government forces in contested systems, Core Worlds are thrown into disarray by corporate warfare, and since United Government doesn't care how worlds are run (as long as the taxes get paid), there is a lot of civil wars going on.

The industrial world Kundok V churned out munitions and fighting vehicles for the United Government, all while various factions used the surplus equipment to fight a civil war. During the war, Ertan Zilkov drove an APC for the Collective Brotherhood of Workers, unloading troops into battle against the Fraternal Workers' Commune. Fighting raged, the battles became fiercer, and factories were reduced to rubble until the day the production quota and quality dropped a little too much. That's when United Navy dropships descended from the skies to restore order.

Fearing that the United Government wouldn't see kindly on his participation in the war, Zilkov decided to relocate. For a while, he continued to ferry infantry in different warzones, but grew increasingly more tired of the endless fighting. Instead he wanted a civilian life, settling on taxi driving on Golgotha Prime. It didn't take long until Zilkov realized that he might be a lot safer in an armoured APC on the battlefield, than in a taxi on Golgotha Prime...
