Captain Easy
« on: 07 March 2009, 04:35:35 PM »
Fantagraphics has announced that they'll be publishing the complete Sunday Adventures of Roy Crane's Captain Easy newspaper strip. (http://www.amazon.com/Captain-Easy-Soldier-Fortune-Crane/dp/1606991612/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1236443572&sr=8-1)

Here's an excerpt from the first one:

This series (and its daily predecessor, Wash Tubbs, in which Captain Easy is a major character) gives all sorts of great ideas for pulp scenarios, as is evident by the one I scanned.  Easy is a Southern gentleman soldier of fortune who ends up in sticky situations in all sorts of fictitious Ruritanian counties in Europe, and throughout the whole of Asia.  Crane's work was HUGELY influential on most adventure cartoonists, especially Milton Caniff's Terry and the Pirates (also worth reading for pulp ideas) and anything by Alex Toth, who designed the Johnny Quest characters as well as most of the Hanna-Barbera adventure stuff.

Anyway, thought I'd bring it to everyone's attention should they be unfamiliar with the series.

Also, does anyone know of any figures that might work for that Giant?  I work in 20mm, so even if they're only slightly larger than 28mm they'd probably work.
Check out THE CROGAN ADVENTURES, a historical adventure graphic novel series available from your local bookstore or comic shop (or, of course, Amazon).  I make 'em.

Looks pretty kool to me, I have never heard of him before.
The question I have for you is are you looking for a figer to match the giant exactly or will any ganarice brutish character do?
"Peace" is that brief, glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading.

The closer the better - I really like how high on the torso the belt sits.  But anything with a similar semi-Mongolian feel would probably do.
