General d'Armee At Salute
« on: April 12, 2017, 10:01:46 AM »
Morning all

I've just updated Lard Island News to say that Dave Brown will be unveiling his latest set of Napoleonic rules, General d'Armee, at Salute.  You can read all about it here:

http://toofatlardies.co.uk/blog/?p=6621

And here's a snap of the cover:

We will be releasing an interview with Dave before Salute where he talks to us about the rules and in the run up to Partizan we have a raft of videos showing how the rules work.

Cheers

Rich

Looking forward to the release of this one Rich. If only Salute wasn't on the other side of the planet to Sydney!

So is this a skirmish set of rules, another Battalion based set, Corps/Army set of rules or something in between?

And yes I went to the link which implies company level commands.

As its name implies, General d'Armée isn't a skirmish set : what Richard mentions in the link he provided is the Sharpe Practice game he'll be hosting at Salute.

GA appears to be the Napoleonic version of Pickett's charge : in David Brown's own words, the emphasis is on brigades rather than battalions, though battalions remain the basic tactical unit.

There's a company level game also going on at Salute being run by Richard - but this isn't it as I read it.

Why would General d'Armee be a company level game?
"One of My Men Became Restless" focuses on 15mm Horse & Musket periods and 25mm Horse & Musket, Fantasy, Horror and Victorian everything! Occasionally there'll be stuff of related interest but it's mostly a painters blog.  See it all here: http://flashman14.blogspot.com/

Maybe he got demoted?

To clarify, I am running a game of Sharp Practice at Salute.  That will feature the Light Company of the West Sussex versus around a company of naughty French.  It's a skirmish game.

Dave will be running a game of General d'Armee which will feature part of the Battle of Desden.  His game will feature a Corps or more per side.  General d'Armee has a battalion as the smallest unit and the Brigade as the key unit of command.

Hope to see some of you there.  It should be a fun day.

Well, it didn't make sense to sleep deprived mind, hence my question.

Obviously sleeping before reading the link/post would have sharpened my eyes and my brain.

Sigh.

Corps per side more sensible...  will players be running brigades then?

Sadly, too far to swim.

Yeah, I won't attend Salute either (again). I've been there in 2013, saw the giants of the wargaming world (Mr.Shuck, Mr.Clarke, Mr.Hyde, the Perrys and others), hung around for a demo game of Chain of Command and that's it. :D Looking forward to General d'Armee. I painted a bunch of 6mm French last year and as soon as my compagnon gets started on his Prussians I hope we'll get to play lots of Napoleonic battles!

Well, for those looking forward to these rules, Lard Island News interviewed Dave yesterday.  Looks like the release date will be Partizan.

You can read the interview here:

Cheers
