Star Eagles Project [Star Fighter Game]
« on: April 17, 2017, 08:22:01 AM »
I am currently backing Star Eagles on kickstarter and just getting the printed rules.

I am trying to find spaceships or starfighters that are either 1/285, 10mm or 15mm scale.

I am after something to represent:
3-5 light fighter
1-3 Medium fighter
1-3 medium fighter [alternate version]
1-2 heavy fighter
1 gunboat

appreciate any help given to this project.. i do need at least two different factions one for me and one for my 9 year old son.
Nothing pulp or retro. My googling powers are evading me at the moment.

cheers
LGW

Hmm, most of the stuff I can think of is smaller however...

The  X-Wing miniatures game is 1/270 so that may work for you? For a cheaper option, buy some of the Micro Machines packs as some of them match that scale exactly. Obviously very recognisable though.

15mm would be HUGE...  :o

That's almost the size of old Micro Machines Action Fleet, right?

Not sure what their assumed scale is, but I think some of the Brigade Models' Squadron Commander Reheat game might be worth a look.

Brigade Models Squadron Commander

I've a few squirreled away somewhere for a re-attempt at Hard Vacuum, and they seemed large, the larger ones maybe used as 1/300, to me.

Doug

Edit: You could always look into kit bashing 1/300 plastic jets. Cutting off wings, filling in air intakes, that sort of thing.

Edit, part deux: I STILL think we need a facepalm emoticon. Bob Murch's Star Crush 1/240

Considering the success of X-Wing in that scale, there's surprisingly few other stuff around.

In addition to the above mentioned stuff, there's also the Silent Death ships (the plastic ones are available from EM4 - http://www.em4miniatures.com/acatalog/Science_Fiction.html), but they seem smaller than the X-Wing/Star Eagles ones, but some could be worked to fit.

There's also the Battletech aircraft (http://www.ralparthaeurope.co.uk/shop/battletech-c-1/miniatures-c-1_3/aircraft-c-1_3_8/), though as with everything Battletech I've no idea of the actual size of these things, though classic Battletech is apparently 1/285.

Studio Bergstrom also do some great 'not-' fighters in roughly the same scale as the silent death stuff - https://studiobergstrom.com. Hope that helps.

Brigade Models fighters are 6mm scale - they've also just released some new stuff:

I have seen a couple of these and they are very nice sculpts.

Hope this helps too :)

There are the two Spartan Games ship models, they're quite big (each comes in two variants, 6-10mm & 15-28mm, made of acrylic, with or without resin detail add on bits). They're not bad & could be detailed up quite easily.

Been looking at the em4 miniatures site at their spacecraft they seem suitable just shame there are no bigger variants just the smaller ones.

the battle tech are in the same boat decent selection of smaller fighter and medium fighters but nothing for heavy fighters and gunboats.

Studio Burgstrom has some very cheesy names items there need to spend some time looking at the full range.

Well, most of us are glad for a few we can ad to the mix and match.  ;)

I held back on the Silent Death because of some of the designs of Star Eagles shows an influence, same reason I hesitated on the actual rip-offs [last of the three] Hobby Services brought up. I AM grateful to him, simply, while I respect and admire Leland, SOMEONE should mention those.

I will add that Metal Express has a subset line of resin models from their Silent Death that are three times as large.

If you combine the cheaper EM4 plastics with a good selection from the metal Silent Death range (http://silent-death.mx/store/), you should be well covered.

Toys and dubiously legal oversized Silent Death castings:

I have a few of the overside SD vinyl toys. They take paint pretty well and are great for 6mm or possibly 10mm in some cases.

I have the bag of 72 ships also but they are really rubbery and too small even for 6mm.  Pass.

If you want 10mm or 15mm, these are your best bet.

They are an army-men type plastic so painting is a bit tough (a plastic specific primer is probalby necessary and maybe some light sanding) but they are much better sized, being generally 3-4 inches long.  They are spot on for 15mm or 10mm depending on the ship since the liners and fighters are the same size.  Here they are laid out next to a 28mm figure

I was told they are copies of Ultraman designs.
Lots more measurements here:

EDIT: just realized you weren't into Pulp.  That would limit the usefullness of these, but there are a couple of ships that might still serve.

spent the last hour or so trying to find the 3:1 resin Silent death miniatures that are not sold out No luck so far.....

Edit: Just added some of the various spacecraft I thought would suit a faction on the Silent death website total order $19.50USD total postage $18USD that was for 6 spacecraft. total amount $37.50USD [$53.50NZD] p&p will kill that option for me.

Edit2: Went to the Em4 Miniature site and added 5x sprues of the 12 pack spacecraft £12.75 [5x£2.55] + p&p £8.00 = £20.75 [$37.20NZD]
that would give me 60 minis to use in my factions with some cutting and converting I might be able to make some larger medium fighters and maybe even a gunboat.
if I increased it to 7 sprues it would cost me £17.85 + p&p £8.00 = £25.85 [$46.33NZD] and I would have 84 spacecrafts to use. This would still be a cheaper option then buying the 6 from the silent death website.
