Looking good - are you going to make it scaley?

Not a huge amount of scales Maybe some around the face and arms but that would be all.

Nice. I'm guessing you used black beads for the eyes?

I like it.  I assume he'll have the required number of appendages?

How wide is the base?

Very nice! I can imagine that painted up in axolotl colours. It has the look of something that has lived a very long time in the dark.

Nope. I'm sticking with two. I think it is only D&D basilisks that have 8 legs. The rest are described as serpentine.

The base is about 30mm wide.

On a pedantic point, Aldrovandus describes the basilisk as having eight legs in the sixteenth century:

But you're quite right that there are plenty of serpentine descriptions too (and overlap with the cockatrice). So stick with two - it looks great!

Thanks for that. I always thought that was just a D&D thing... At least the D&D ones don't have scrotum chins as depicted in that picture ;)
Maybe I should do my research a bit wider.

I thought the same until I did a little rooting around a few years back. The can wattles must be part of the cockatrice overlap - not a good look!

No need for research when you're knocking out interesting and original models like that one, though.

Some other WIP's. I might also take better basilisk photos.
More info on the blog too.
First is a Cyclops Skull.

And a big frog guy too. No scale shots on either of these but the block they are on are about 40mm in diameter
