Jake goes batty! Now with Panda!

I painted my first figure of 2017.

Have had it primed for over a month.  Finally got around to digging out paints and brushes.

This is the Knight Models Ben Affleck Batman that comes with the Suicide Squad boxed set.







Looks bad zoomed in, but in hand I'm pretty happy with it.  I need to do the base still.

I love that figure.

I was doubtful about Ben Affleck playing Batman when I first heard it, but as I started seeing photos from the I started to get into it.

I think he's been my favorite on film Batman.  Big, gritty, angry.

I had some lessons learned while painting him.

1. As I get older, my eyes are indeed getting worse.  This was exacerbated by poor lighting where I was painting leading to

2.  Don't be too lazy to go into the storage area and dig out the daylight lamp you have.

3. Blacks are a bitch.  Some of you folks on LAF make them look easy.  Well, for me it isn't.

4.  My old hand me down* iPhone is not a great camera.

Having said that, I really did enjoy painting again and for the effort I really am happy with Batman.   Again, in hand and not zoomed it he does look decent.

*  My wife is the gadget type.  She inevitably NEEDS the newest iPhone and I 'upgrade' to her old one.

I hear ya.  I got one of the cheap 'optivisors' for Christmas, and it has made a HUGE difference.

Add decent lighting, and it makes it a bit easier!

I assembled three more figures from the set and temp glued them to the bases so I can prime them tomorrow.

Doing the two guys with the teeth masks and the panda dude with the rifle.

I did drill out the rifle barrel and glued it to a wire stuck on a base to make painting Panda Man easier.

I got a cheap Jada die cast Batmobile from Amazon.   The same company makes other styles in the same scale.







May not be 100% perfectly in scale with the figures, but it is close enough for me.

Very nice!  The Panda got more screen time here than in the actual movie!

Yeah, I watched the movie with my daughter (she got me the blu ray for Christmas) and when I showed her the finished mini, she said "Cool, I don't remember him from the movie though."   

Guess we need to re-watch it.

I'm pretty happy with how the white came out.  I painted the white parts white over a black primer.  Then I repainted them with an off white/antique white.  I then used a really thinned out light brown for the mouth and some of the deeper shadow areas. I then finished up by going over high areas with plain white.   The pictures don't really show it well.

My black on the other hand was lazy and pathetic...   Having said that, I now have a guy with a snipe rifle wearing a Panda suit painted up.   Not a lot of folks can make that claim.
