Would it be against the rules to finish my 2017 entry (https://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=96708.0)? lol
Just kidding. I have two ideas for now.
One is a early medieval style carriage for my fantasy games, the other is a ruined factory with conveyor belts for Necromunda. Can't decide yet...
-
I think you should finish the 2017 too :P :P
-
One of the Discord servers I'm on recently had an unfinished project competition. It was amazingly useful. Maybe we can do that as a small competition in the fall?
-
To be clear... would this a be a competition where you finish a project you started and left it unfinished or is it a competition where you start a project and leave it unfinished. :)

Yes

Yes
lol
I think I have a few project I could choose from for a competition like that. :D

That would be a good idea. I could throw a stick in my wargames room & be VERY
confident on hitting an unfinished project. lol lol lol
Good luck McMordain.
-
would that have to include the stick?
-
lol

I have a shedload of entries! I could make a room-sized diorama of entries! I think I like it :D
-
Good luck (finishing at least one project) :D
-

The stick is the prize
-
'The Stick' is what Australians call a Boomerang that won't come back. :D
-
I'm old enough to remember that "The Stick" (the definite article is crucial) is something one "got" from the headmaster or his deputy...

Sister Paula just used the ruler. A lot.

We got a thing called, 'The Strap' which was not unlike a straight razor's strop.
The 'normal' was five strokes. If you pulled your hand away you got another stroke.
One lad started to pull his hand away, but not far enough, so it caught the tip of
his middle finger. :o :o :o. he still got a sixth stroke for attempting to pull his
hand away. :-[

I think there is a joke here about the carrot, the stick and finishing entries in time but I'm more concerned what to build :)
The carriage would be relatively easy and I could finish it on time even with painting it. So it's out lol (I reserve it for a possible next BSSC ;) )
The manufacturing conveyor belt idea for Necromunda should be the better choice as it offers more opportunities to build stuff. But it still feels like it lacks something...
However I got this brilliant idea the other day, when I remembered the part in Attack of the Clones with the droid factory on Geonosis (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZaxMHBxck5I).
All those great hanging conveyors... I can do that. For the Imperial Munitorum Armoured Container :D
I can use 3 of my Pringels tube stock for supports or make two supports and do a wall section (similar to my Wall Motel (https://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=136074.0)) where it disappears into the hive. I already cut the base materials for two other wall sections back then, but the project got on hold since...
Now should I do a cablecar style system or one with rigid rails?
-
Cable car is more modular - you can move the towers and keep the cable separate, but a fixed system would let you build a walkway on top for fun gaming possibilities.
-
Yeah that is what I was thinking as well. I will check the local hardware store to see what kind of strings they have that I could use for cables.
One thing that worries me about the cable option is, how to manage cable tension with the desire to make it modular. Also the towers will need some serious weight at the bottom so the weight of the container doesn't pull them down.
With the fixed rail option, a lot of these problems don't come up.

Rather than string why not use a rigid "cable"? Options might be piano wire or wood dowel, depending on how thick you want. It avoids having to keep any kind of tension.
This forum topic may help (apart from the Photobucket problem): https://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=35958.70

Would it be against the rules to finish my 2017 entry (https://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=96708.0)?
Not quite along the rules as stated I believe, but that was a pretty nice build and I would love to see it finished some day 8)
But depending on the length you want the cables to span, it might be the best solution to go with something rigid instead of an actual cable/string/rope. Me personally would go with steel rod for this; plenty of strength and rigidity, and it can be subtly bent to simulate the weight of the cable in scale too...
-
About the materials, I found out the other day that the 6 mm steel cable is only a bit more expensive, than 6 mm nylon string (per meter).
So it would be possible to use actual cables lol
But I decided to make the rigid rail version.... sometime in the future.
Sadly I had to re-evaluate my plans, as February and March will be very busy at work, and I had to adjust my lifestyle do to health issues as well, which means I'm mentally and/or physically exhausted when I get home. Also two of the four Saturdays in February already booked for stuff so even my weekends are short for this.
All this means I decided against doing a big project, because I'm sure with the current conditions I will not be able to finish it. :(
However I'm utterly unwilling to drop out even before the start, so back to the carriages I go :D I'm sure I can make those complex enough to barely finish it on time lol
I will do some sketches and see what materials I will need to get on Sunday. I know I have to get some simple horses and an ox or two for pulling the carts.

Here's hoping you can get something done. I'm dealing with health challenges myself right now - been off work for a few months.
You could do a post-apoc scene - have your horses pulling an old cable car

I hope so too :D
I like the horse driven cable car idea, but sadly it does not fit any of my current games.
On the other hand, not much was done today. I was just searching for inspiration on the web.
I remembered there was a tax carriage in the Kevin Costner Robin Hood movie, so watched the relevant part and took some screenshots.

It was hard to get a good pic, but the above are good enough. I want to make something similar. This would work as a noble's or tax collector's carriage.
Tried to get a pic of Friar Tuck's carriage as well. I like the look of it and it would go well with last years vineyard. :)
Also I bought some 5mm x 5mm pine strips for the structure and got my box of wood materials for the rest. I will make some plans later today and start the actual build tomorrow.
-
I started to build a base for the carriage body but it become apparent quickly that for the proper shape I first need to make the undercarriage. So wheels...
I tried to make one.
It didn't work out... and made me realize I don't want to make wheels. I searched for options among my collection of stuff, but all I could find were Warhammer ones, and they are to fantasy for what I have in mind. I could buy wheels, but then I could by a whole kit as well. And it turns out I already did that, as I found not one but two Sarissa carriage kits in my drawers... This totally killed my motivation.
Sooo back to square one o_o
I'm not sure what to build (again), but have some ideas. It will have to do something with flying and pirates probably.
I will look around my junk too see what can I use. I will report back on Sunday.

That wheel will make an excellent ruined wheel for later. But I hear you, motivation can be hard sometimes

Warbases might be able to help out if you don't want to raid the Sarissa carriages for their wheels: https://warbases.co.uk/product/cart-wheels-28mm-scale/

This would have been my suggestion too as they are always handy to have in the bits box.
-
There's also a tonne of wheels on thingiverse you can get for free if you have a 3D printer
-
You could go with a non-spoked wheel, something more primitive. Or maybe build a wheel wrights.
-
Those Warbase wheels indeed look good. I will order one or two among some other things, there are other stuff on their site that I could use for my projects. Incidentally I looked at some of their carraige options but I missed the wheels.
I don't have a 3D printer but I know a guy I can ask for some stuff if needed. However I don't like to work with resin, I try to avoid it If I can.
The carriage form the Robin Hood movie has solid wheels, and that would certainly be easier, but I lost all my drive for carriages at the moment.

Spoked wheels print fine in FDM - I just ran off a bunch for scatter terrain on mine

I will keep that in mind when I get back to the carriage project.
On the other hand I had some progress with my new idea.
I had this thing lying about for more than 20 years now.
I always wanted to use it as a base for a flying boat for my sky pirate figures, but as I don't play anything in the pulp genre (because of a lack of opponents) I never got around it.
I do want to play though, so this is a good opportunity to get started. Beside building the boat I will try and finish the painting on the Artizan Sky Pirates and do the Pulp Alley figures as well.
I started with cutting of the top part.
This got me a good base.
I drew the basic layout on piece of cardboard to see the proportions. There will be a gunnery position on the bow, and the helm will be at the stern.
I plan to do a raised cabin, but I will not detail it internally.
The original idea was to make it an outrigger type thing, mostly to support the big computer fan I planed to use as the propulsion system.
But I couldn't figure out a good way to add the fan. Also I found some old model propellers in my bitz box and decided to go with two engine pods.
I did some detailing and choose two thread spools as the base for the pod.
However I can't decide if I should go with a bigger or a smaller version.

I will try to make some pics with the pods next to the hull tomorrow to give a better look of the two versions.
Until I decide on how to proceed with these I will work on the hull.
-
Fun! The bigger version I think withs better
-
It is coming along fine.
-
Everything is better with airships. Nice work so far.
-
Thnaks.
I'm still undecided on the engine pods, so in the meantime did some work on the hull. I will post pics tonight.
-
That's looking very good, I love the sky pirates theme.
-
My hobby place got really messy while I was figuring out what to do, so I started today's hobby time with some cleanup.
I doubt it will hold long though :D
I did some basic work on the structure. Nothing is glued yet.
The piece of tube at the bow fits right into the hole I cut out for the gun position. I'm thinking about making a removable turret thingy out of it with a bigger gun.
Also I think I will cut of about 2 mm form the trapeze ribs of the upper structure. I did not account for the thickness of the plastic card and the sides are too close for the edge for my liking.
The floor at the stern section will be below the rim of the ship, so I started to add some support for it.
It should offer enough support.
Also I got some bluetac and put the engine pods next to the ship.
I still can't decide... o_o
My other problem is should I add some kind of sail or try to do an airship balloon?
-
That will be sharp when done! Looks great now.
-

Balloons are always fun
-
that worktop was not messy...
-
that worktop was not messy...
Definitely plus one to that! :D
-
I usually end up getting more and more hemmed in until i have barely room for a sheet of A4 on the dining table... lol
-
If I clean my desk, I can't find anything. It is counterproductive.
-
That is looking splendid so far.
-
that worktop was not messy...
Well it definitely got worse before lol
If I clean my desk, I can't find anything. It is counterproductive.
I usually clean it before a new project or when I can't find something anymore :)
I did the stairs to the cabin and the cabin door itself during the weekend.

I will add a couple of bolts on to the cabin door window frame, but otherwise it's done.
It doesn't look like much was done, but it needed a lot of fiddling to make it fit. It would be easier if I started gluing things in place, but if I do that I can't paint some details, that will be visible, later.
Also I found a good bit for the control panel, that I will try to copy with bluestuff, and small anchor. Both comes from a GW Kharadron ship kit.
-
Very nice work. It definitely makes it look there is a there there.
-
nice progress
-
Yesterday and today I worked on the engine pods.
Went with the bigger versions.

Their placement is set. I tried to make it symmetrical but I don't think even the two halves of the hull are symmetrical (it is a very old Heller kit), so it isn't perfect. It will bother me forever, but I don't have the time to fiddle with it anymore.
I will start detailing them and add additional supports. They are not glued on yet.
Also here is the two bits I mentioned earlier.
On an unrelated note, does someone know if it's possible to change the main title of the topic? Or how to do it?
-
Looking good McMordain, nice use of the paint bottle lids.
I believe thread titles can be changed but you'd need to butter up a mod to do it for you.
-
Go back to your very first post of this thread, hit Modify, and update the Subject line there, that'll change the display title for the entire thread.
The whole thing is coming together nicely! I share the frustration with "damn thing isn't symmetrical" - and in my case, it's a quirk of the back walls of my shuttle project, so I can't even blame a kit part, just some oddity of alignment that crept in as I assembled the damn thing!
The door into the cabin is very, very nicely done. Is that just freehand styrene cutting or do you have something to help cut that rounded lozenge shape?
-
Very, very cool!!!! Everything is always better with airships!

Overall, this is a smashing build. Looking forward to the final thing.
-
What a nice start :-*
-
Marvelous, this is looking very nice.
-
Looks great - well done :-*
-
Changed the title, thanks for the info guys!
I got swamped at the end of last week at work and had other things to do during the weekend, so couldn't do much.
I did some detail work on one of the engine pods last Wednesday. Tried make it look like its an uncovered engine, but the spools are made of PP and only bigger pieces stick to it... until I hold it with too much force. So I wasn't able to ad small details and I don't really like the look of it now. It will be easy to get the bits of though lol
(https://leadadventureforum.com/gallery/65/8499-240225214531.jpeg)
I think I will add a couple more horizontal half canes instead, and hope that they will not come off when I paint them.
I still have a lot to do at work so most likely I can resume working on the ship during the weekend. I don't have anything planned and hopefully nothing urgent will come up.
The door into the cabin is very, very nicely done. Is that just freehand styrene cutting or do you have something to help cut that rounded lozenge shape?
This one was freehand, after drawing the shape using a template. I used a ruler for the straight parts, and drilled holes along the curves and cut it in small sections. With 1 mm or thinner plastic card it's not that difficult. It is not that precise either, just doesn't shows on the pics ;)
The template however was a leftover piece from my 2018 build (https://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=106266.msg1341444#msg1341444) (the similarly shaped door at the middle of the post), which was cut using a circle cutter like this one (https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQk3ZBN-HSX6mwRQpNx9anfl4-xS7FobPqd_A&s). It works if one has the patience to make lots of passings slowly. Mine however is old and the the blade is not that sharp anymore. And because it is a compass style tool, it leaves a hole at the middle, which could be annoying at times. I'm considering getting something like the Dspiae cutter (https://dspiaestore.com/products/dspiae-mt-c-stepless-circular-cutter?variant=49205680996671).
-
Amazing detail on the pods.
-
Amazing detail on the pods.
Thanks and I hate to disappoint, but I wont't be using those. I'm really afraid that gluing PP will not hold up during painting or playing.
I found my old box of Mantic pipe sections and the straight one is a good enough fit. I tried it yesterday. I will post pictures tonight or tomorrow.
-
Amazing work on those details, even if you won't be using them.
-
Ahoy!
I will post more picture of my progress later, but in the meantime:
Balloon...
or sails?
I like both options and I can't decide... o_o Also I don't think I have the time to do both and make them interchangeable.
-
I really like the idea of the sail. However with the cabin structure I am not sure that it will quite look "right" with the mast sticking out of center of it. If the cabin was in the aft it would visually fit a bit better. Just my two cents.
-
I think I have to agree with snitchythedog. I say balloon.
-
FWIW, a balloon has a more pulp-ey feel whereas a sail suggests fantasy to me.
-
With the sails I had something like this in mind:
However I'm leaning toward the balloon as well, because that seems more of a challenge. :)
But I can push the decision aside for little bit more. In the meantime I finished the bow gunnery/observation position.
This will be painted before I glue on the deck.
I also finalized the engine pods. The base is a Mantic pipe section with stuff added to it. The starboard engine is done, the port engine needs greebleing.
I like how it turned out.
It only needs some additional supports, but I have to think about how to do that. I may have to paint the engines before.
Hopefully I get the additional stuff I ordered next week, because some of it is needed to proceed.
-
I see what you are saying about the cabin and it defiantly can work.
Very nice work on the observation room and the engine cowling. If you want to sneak in more support without looking like more support you can add a steel wire fuel line. It should be thin enough not to look out of place while being strong enough to help keep the nacelle from moving too much.
-
I'm Team Balloon too. Could do some sails on the sides of the balloon to be both
-
You and snitcy are really knocking it out of the park with the details. Just incredible stuff.
-
Love the detail on the engines and in that crew position.
Did you do press-molded bolt heads in greenstuff on the side of the engine? I think that's what I'm seeing but the photos aren't quite large enough...
-
Thanks guys.
snitcythedog: the white rods holding the engines are actually tubes with a brass rod inside. It sturdy enough to hold it, I want to add faux support because it looks flimsy lol
Burgundavia: Hmm, I will think about it when I do the balloon. I don't want to add too many things that stick out though. We will see.
Wirelizard: Yes, I have a Greenstuff World silicon mold for various rivets and bolts, but it seems like a discontinued product. It's made for resin but I never worked with the stuff, so I use GS. I also have some bluestuff molds which were made of GW plastic scenery kits. The mechanicus ones have a lot of good looking rivets and bolts.
-
This build is really coming together; looks fantastic.

The mold works well with milliput too. All of the knobs on my build are the same bolts that you are using.

I see a two part rivet mold in the GSW lineup, not sure if that's the same - the listing doesn't actually give any details, just "20 options".
Of course, Green Stuff World being who they are, if they have a product, that means someone else invented it and GSW just copied it and undercut the inventor's price, so it might be worth a bit more web searching to see who else does rivet/bolt molds...
-
Temu has a stainless steel credit card sized stencil with various sizes, guess you could thumb in a bit of g/s for that, but it would be a bit tedious to do a lot... only £3 though.

Yeah, saw that too.

I see a two part rivet mold in the GSW lineup, not sure if that's the same - the listing doesn't actually give any details, just "20 options".
That's the one. Four rivet or bolt types in five sizes each.
Of course, Green Stuff World being who they are, if they have a product, that means someone else invented it and GSW just copied it and undercut the inventor's price, so it might be worth a bit more web searching to see who else does rivet/bolt molds...
Interestingly enough, I think those molds are organic. I have not seen similar anywhere else and I tend to be a tool hoarder.
-
very nice progress

snitcythedog is right, that's the one I have. I missed it last time, when I was searching for it on their site it seems. As for the company I'm not a fan, but this and their corrugator tool was too good to pass up. I couldn't find better options at the time.
Early this week I finished the port side engine pod.
and you can see now the brass rods keeping them firmly in place.
I also hid the uneven top of the bow gun position with a strip of plastic glued to the main deck hole. Also added a chain to hold the anchor, but it is not permanently fixed yet.
Got the packages I was waiting for as well. From EurekaUK I got the driver-gunner pairs from their Mad Maximillian range. I was searching for inter war pilots and someone in a thread, here on LAF was mentioned them as a good option. They look great and the female gunner works really well in the gun position, but they are bit larger than the pulp figures I have. The other problem is, now that I have the figures/weapons, I'm not convinced that two Lewis guns are good enough as a main weapon for the ship...
The Lewis guns will be useful for some additional armament at the stern of the ship. I got a pack of 3 from Warbases, along with the wheels and some horses (and a couple of other useful things) for the eventual carriage building ;) Thanks again for the tip guys!
Though I have to mention when I got to the post office for the package, they handed it to me in a sealed plastic bag. The carton packaging was soft as a pillow... It got soaked somewhere along the way. Nothing was missing, but the two sheets of wheels soaked and warped as well. If I was working on the carriages instead, that would have killed any motivation to go forward with it... Fortunately that is not the case and a nice flat surface, some weighty rule books and a warm room helped with the warping. The sealed bag prevented the mdf to dry warped, so I got lucky :D
The cabin sides are done as well. Nothing fancy at the moment just to strips of plastic cut into shape, with washers as windows, like on the cabin door.

I had to work yesterday so I could only do a little building at the evening. Hopefully I will able to do more today. I feel like I'm really behind schedule... o_o
-
Ooo that does look posh! Maybe the gunner is just tall and strapping to cope with the big guns?
-
Ahoy!
Sorry for the lack of updates. Work was stressing me a lot and then I got sick and couldn't do much during most of last week... which was stressing o_o
And now I have to deal with the work load that was a lot before and got even bigger during my leave... life is hard lol
Anyway here is what I managed to do since the last update:
I added the other half of the inner rim to the bow gun position and made a little insert to which I can attach the main gun. I found a pintle mounted autocanon from a HH Malcador kit that looks good enough for a 20 or 30 mm cannon. I will use that for now.
The insert will not be glued in, so it will be possible to add a different gun later, if I choose.
The bottom of the ship was to simple for my taste so I added some panel lines.
I also painted the parts that will be difficult to reach once things gets glued to the hull (no pics of that).
Then glued on the top of the cabin with a hole added for the support of the balloon.
I was thinking about making it removable, for transporting or making a sail version, but I will skip this (more on this later).
Here is a wip setup for the ship armaments.
The above was all done before I got sick. I was feeling better last Tuesday and started to work on the balloon as I could do that in my room which is better heated than my workshop.
The base is lego box cardboard, about 1,5 mm thick.
Once I put all the discs and the ribs together I started to glue on small bits where they join to hold them in place. This made the whole structure really sturdy.
After that I cut long, 4 mm thick strips of a thinner cardboard and glued it on the edge of the ribs so it has more surface to hold the outer cover which will be made from textile. I made a template for that. Hopefully it will work.
So obviously I'm really behind schedule. I was, even before I got sick, but losing a week made things worse. I scrapped a lot of optional stuff but I still have a long way to go.
I need to cover the balloon (and if I mess that up somehow, I'm really out).
I need to finish bow of the ship.
I need to start the stern of the ship which includes a helm.
The cabin needs tiding up.
The ship needs a rim all around and a lots of additional details everywhere.
The engine pods need the extra support.
The balloon will need extra anchor cables, and I would like to do the side anchors like sailing ship shrouds.
For this I have 5 evenings (not counting today) and 1 Sunday as I have Saturday booked already and I can't cancel that.
So while I will try my hardest, it's most likely I will not finish this on time. :?
-
That zepp balloon looks awesome, fantastically clean fabrication in heavy card, which can be a bit of a sod to work in.
Hope you can get this done in time, it's looking really cool.
-
Looking real good. The panel lines do break up the bottom. Glad to see that it is not completely on the back burner.
-
Marvelous work. I especially like the work on the balloon.
-
Impressive cardboarding!*
*Oxford take note - new word!
-
Cracking work, the zeppelin is particularly pleasing.
-
Bloody hell, that zepp is impressive.
-
Well the balloon cover is mostly done.

A nose and tail cover is still need to be done.
Also the fixing points for the anchor cables will be added as well.
-
Very well done!!
-
The weekends result:
I need to cover the balloon (and if I mess that up somehow, I'm really out). - Done
(https://leadadventureforum.com/gallery/65/8499-300325212537-65568133.jpeg)
Nose and tail cover is done, and I'm pleased with the overall result.
This is how the balloon and the ship looks together at the moment:
I need to finish bow of the ship. - Mostly done, some details are needed.
The cabin needs tiding up. - I consider this done.
The ship needs a rim all around and a lots of additional details everywhere. - First part done.
I need to start the stern of the ship which includes a helm. - Done. I will glue it in place after painting it.
The engine pods need the extra support. - This will be the last thing I do.
The balloon will need extra anchor cables, and I would like to do the side anchors like sailing ship shrouds.
This is the plan for the above:
The ones on the side will be either plastic or brass rods for additional support. The ones at the bow and stern will be made with thread if I find the one I bought for ship modelling. If not those will be plastic as well.
I also added "roof" to the cabin door.
So I have tomorrow from about 16:00 to midnight to finish the build. Technically I have till 9 am, but I have to go to work on April 1st and I would like to sleep before that lol
I think I can manage it without rushing just to finish the build.
-
I'm digging the detailing McMordain, lovely work.
-
This is going to look fantastic when painted.
-
This looks brilliant :-*

Spectacular.

It's done. I could add a lot more detail, but it should be a gaming piece not a display model. Also it's 2:30 AM and I need to sleep.
I will make better pics tomorrow.
-
That looks absolutely amazing.
-
Outstanding work.
-
You deserve a good sleep McMordain, it's looking great. The rigging really ties it all together. Nice use of a plastic pennant too.
-
Thanks all, I'm glad you like it :)
I worked from 4:00 pm till 2:00 am to finish it. Started with tiding up the bow and stern then did the anchor bits.
In the end I went with plastic rods for balloon anchors as I couldn't find my ship rope thread... it was better this way probably.
The idea was to do a piston like system with an axis at both end. This allows a lot of flexibility positioning the supports.
So I cut a bunch of rods, tubes and strips to size. I was pressed for time, so I used my mitre cutter to cut the tubes, but it can't cut the 3-4mm tubes straight. Also I used my power drill and a 2mm drill bit to drill holes into a 5 mm wide plastic strip (I only have a drill press for the big guy). The results were a bit uneven but fast. These were the sides of the axis sockets and was cut at 5 mm intervals. The bottom of the sockets got a 1mm hole for a brass nail, which serves to pin the ends to the ship and the balloon.
I put together one anchor to test the concept and it worked. The only thing I forgot was the fact that by closing the end of the tubes the air couldn't escape when I put in the rods. I couldn't understand why suddenly the rods didn't fit, and started to grind the ends with sandpaper... I was really frustrated by this, then I realized my mistake about the fourth piston, and started to drill small holes at the bottom to let the trapped air out. Solved the problem instantly lol
Also with the test piece done it become apparent that I don't need six anchor per side. Half of that looked alright and I added only one to the stern instead of two.
What left was adding the engine pod support, the nuts and bolts where it was needed, the Lewis gun mounts and some detail bits I put aside (the pennant, antenna, harpoon etc). I also quickly made some cleats vaguely remembering how they look. The result looks the part but not very good at it's job lol
(https://leadadventureforum.com/gallery/65/8499-030425211546-656592327.jpeg)
With all the stuff added to it the whole thing was quit wobbly on the stand so I spent the last 30 minutes to make it secure enough.
Here are all the parts ready for primming:
and some better pics of the details
(https://leadadventureforum.com/gallery/65/8499-030425211747-656621837.jpeg)
I forgot to add the anchor hook to the ship for the done pics last time. Tying the thread to the cleat is tricky. Fortunately I only have to do it once more, after painting lol
(https://leadadventureforum.com/gallery/65/8499-030425211747-656641688.jpeg)

I'm quite pleased with the end result. There is only one thing that bothers me. I completely forgot to add some kind of horizontal stabilizer/elevator...
About the painting. I primed the various parts today, but I'm not sure what colors to use. Also I'm not very good at painting vehicles, so don't expect much.
-
The work is staggering. Good luck with the painting!
-
I'm happy to report that painting is underway. The result may even look decent :)
I decided on a paint scheme and I used our clubs very basic airbrush. It was donated by a member and I have it for safekeeping, because we don't have a club room at the moment. It really helps with painting the bigger flat surfaces.

Airbrush is a great idea. I think where you will really find it useful is on the curved surface of the balloon as you can get a nice natural looking shadow.

Airbrushes can make life better for so many things! I have a small collection of them, and have actually worn two out along the way. Literally wore them out.
Once you get the hang of them, shading and highlights are so worth it. Flat surfaces without brushstrokes … delightful!

Well, I'm not sure if I should paint the balloon. I don't know how the textile and underlying cardboard would react to the paint. Also I don't really know what color to paint it.
-
That is well cool.
-
Sent in the pic, though with some caveats. See here (https://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=147831.msg1910114#msg1910114)

I will try to make some better ones when I will have the time.
The base is still not finished, but I will get the new nozzle for my airbrush next week, so hopefully I can finish it as well soon.
-
Jeez, it looked amazing in the BSC pics but these show the outstanding detail too. Your competition pics really didn't do it justice.
Your figure painting skills are similarly brilliant, I try to have natural light looking over my shoulder when taking pics seems to work once I've got my shadow out of the way.
-
This is a brilliant project. Congratulations on a well deserved result :-*
-
Those are really fantastic photos - they really shoe off the details.
-
Really wonderful stuff here.
-
She is a beauty allright :)
-
Those are amazing. I definitely want to talk next year about our photography rules. I think we should be celebrating small details and sadly 1 1000x1000 really doesn't do things like this justice.

This!

blimey, that's some nice detailing
-
Marvelous details on the boat. :-*
-
Fantastic work.
I'd agree on the BSC photo rules - limiting to a single photo seems counter productive.
As to your figure photos - it's probably the white background that is fooling the camera into thinking it has enough light, and therefore leading to underexposed photos. It's certainly possible to take good photos with a white background, and it is a nice way of isolating the figure in the photo, but it usually takes some work to get the setup of the camera and some post production work too.
-
That is beautifully clean all around, thanks for showing off all the closeups.
Need to get my painting WIP photos and the full size pics I took of my shuttle organized and posted... sometime in July, hopefully.
