They look fantastic, the colour choice really makes for a very evocative "black"

will be trying that myself

Thanks Tactal, I went in with the burnt umber wash first, then stippled off with a towel, then a midnight blue drybrush. I added a few layers and tried to make it darker on the edges as a bit of a vignette.

Cheers

They look grand! And I agree that the brown/blue mix makes for a lot more visual interest than straight black.

Thanks Basement!

When Games Workshop released the High Elves Island of Blood box set I was impressed by the griffon lord. I find the pose and styling of the griffon a superb piece of design, not over stated like some pieces, but with a realistic (if that's possible for a fantasy beast) set of proportions, and dynamic pose, the swooping extended talons are cool.

And thus, as a Bretonnian player, often puturbed by the lack of beastie options and special characters in general, and for the most part a much maligned faction, I decided in true young punk style, to convert one to the glorious forces of Gisourex.

From a conversion point the hardest part was hacking off the high elf below the knees, and modifying the 8th Ed KoTR to fit the mount. It was a bit complex as I needed to keep the HE reins and hand, scrap the recliner chair, but keep some of his cape. A bit rough in places the conversion was done. I liked the pennant and added it to the KoTR lance. The KotR short sword had to be shortened into a dagger to fit on the griffon wings, his shield hand had to be removed to make way for the HE gloved hand, and I needed to separate a long sword from another torso and change the angle lying down the body of the griffon.

Painting inspiration was based on the Australian wedge tail eagle and a snow leopard, mountain dwelling animals suitable for Gisourex mountains and Plains. Snow leopard photos seem more yellow than white, but I think mine ended a little too yellow, oh well. The rider was painted up in the colours of Lord Gisourex, a suitable mount for the patron of Constable Bertrand.

Thanks for looking
Matt

No I think you got the colours spot on. It's a lovely looking model, well converted and painted. Very, very nice.

The way you did those feathers almost makes me wish I hadn't gone in with the army made of dinosaurs. Almost.

Ooh well done! I was only looking for that high Elf griffon this weekend, for pretty much the same idea! I'm pleased to see it works well and looks good. :)

This is fantastic. The patterning on the fur is grand, and the gradient on the beak looks brill- and this is without mentioning the rider! Really lovely conversion and paintjob. :-*

Oh thank you for the kind words everyone, they are very appreciated.

I entered it into a local painting competition if you would be willing to vote. There's some beautiful entries there, and Vlad entered his very cool slann frog.
