Thanks for the pics Andrew! Sent you a PM.

The Peter Pig figures really are quite nice indeed, and now on their website I see that they're sending to a few countries in the EU (including the Netherlands, where I live) Delivery Duties Paid, which is great.

Thanks for the offer as well rumacara! But I think for skirmish I'd like to have the scale of the figures match the terrain, and I feel like 20mm might look a bit strange next to 'em, so I probably won't go that route (especially considering it'll still be tough to get Newline figures in the future). Looking forward to seeing your own regiments!

Just an idea. :)

And speaking of ideas do check the train shops for texture sheets. There are some representing wood that are nice to scratchbuild buildings for ACW.

Peter Pig minis are lovely, I’m an unapologetic fan. I find them very easy to paint and I also like the faces - gives character and look great at 3ft. I have generally found that the faces only really suffer when the scale and dress/sculpt affect the model - hats and undercuts. I tend to re-head a lot of them anyway so I can get variety in my little chaps (that no-one else can see!) - the separate head sprue sculpts are generally very good and the range available from PP is brilliant.

One possible recommendation/idea for a ruleset is Forager https://standtogames.co.uk/shop/ols/products/forager-the-napoleonic-skirmish-wargaming-rules-pdf-version it’s a Napoleonic skirmish set but I think it would be relatively easy to adjust into ACW (just the addition of newer firearms). I have to admit I haven’t played it but it’s been on my radar for a while and the few AARs I’ve read seem interesting.

I have played (and intend to play more) Sharpe Practice with my AWI but as smaller fights/skirmishes at 1:1 - I’ve never been a fan of the seemingly popular practice of 8 large models representing an entire unit.

I can't lie, I do love window shopping at the Peter Pig website (although it may not be the prettiest). It's incredible how many ranges they have!

Thanks for the ruleset recommendation, I'll take a look! Although I already intend to try Song of Drums and Shakos, Fistful of Lead, and some other "homemade" rulesets I've come across.

I finished my supply of matches, got about 6 feet of snake rail fencing out of em. Now to paint it! (You can see a severely unsuccessful attempt at staining the first batch of matches in acrylic paint.) It was really tedious to cut all the matches' heads off, and then carve them so they'd look a bit more realistic (that was especially gruelling, we're talking about 230, 240 matches, done in 3 sittings (+fence building took a hot minute).

Anyways, complaining aside, they're (halfway) done! I don't think I'll need more any time soon, considering my small playing area.

Awesome stuff sir! A true work of passion - the whole painting of wood and the many colours it can be (through weathering) is a real rabbit hole. The individual carving was definitely worth it (and such commitment is one of the bits of the hobby I really enjoy - looks at his 80ft of 15mm Bocage, sat waiting to have the greenery added to it, and sighs  lol ).

I think you’re probably set for rules (although it never stops me buying interesting new sets :D ) and judging by how well respected it is here on LAF would think Fistful of Lead would be perfect.

Someone started a thread ( https://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=148925.msg1909965#msg1909965) for a new pulp set by a LAF member (Huevans - apologies if spelt wrong) called Carbine, Colt and Tulwar that is described as an RPG style small skirmish game that seems like it would cover the period, scale and weapons of game you’d like to play - may be worth DM’ing him and asking for a play test copy.

Edit: Hugh has kindly sent me a play test copy of his excellent game and although I’ve only read through it I think I can recommend it as the type of thing you’re looking for.

Keep up the good work,

Andrew
