15mm Dungeon Project
« on: 17 July 2015, 10:12:17 AM »
I'm working on a 15mm Dungeon Project. The board itself will be modular, dental plaster, using Hirst Arts moulds. The minis are coming from a number of manufacturers. I'll be using the setup with a variety of rules (right now I'm looking at Warrior Heroes, from THW).

These little guys are Ral Partha Demonworld minis. I tried a few new techniques I haven't used before, with mixed results. Some of the effects are nice, but I'm afraid the varnish lowered the quality some. Oh well. I also need to work on how to take better pictures - I've read the tuts on how to set up a photo chamber, but there's so much to do first :)

and some more details:

group shot on some dungeon tiles:

The tiles I've finished:

and (most of) the ones I still need to get done:

Feedback, thoughts, questions and so on are always welcome!

Looking fantastic!  Great job on the brushwork.

I've always been impressed by people working on the smaller scales, I can barely handle details at 28mm with my clumsy fingers  lol
When fighting the thousand, you must still defeat them one at a time.

Thanks. As a rule, I find 15mm not much more difficult to paint than 25mm; though you obviously get fewer detail. However, blending and glazing are pretty challenging at that scale. Or maybe it's my lack of practice with these techniques :)

Everything is looking great so far! It's interesting to see people's work in scales other than the ubiquitous 28mm (not that there's anything wrong with it, mind, it's just so dominant). I'd love to see some photos of your dungeon monsters when you get around to them.

Next up are some more characters; a few women, warriors, another mage... I'll start out with a Demon Cult as the bad guys, the minis should arrive next week :)

I got a few more minis done (still need to varnish).

Female mercenary

another female warrior

And the first few bad guys: the as yet nameless Evil Cult! People say they practice dark arts, necromancy, and summon evil spirits. What's more, the rumors claim the cult is lead by a woman, which would be wholly unnatural, of course...

I'm going for a yellowish color scheme with the bad guys. Black and red robes (and demons) are so common, you need to stand out of you want to succeed as a cult, I guess.

Cult Leader

Skeleton Bodyguard

Skeleton Executioner

Evil Familiar

The skeletons are 15mm.co.uk, the rest are from Ral Partha Demonworld.

The bad guys have received reinforcements.

Six zombies:

And six members of the dreaded cult:

Happily, the good guys get another wizard for good measure.

The zombies and the cultists only have two poses each, but the models are very nice. Good details without being crowded, enjoyable to paint. I have several dozen more of both, but I don't think I'll need that many (please don't ask why I didn't just buy fewer. It made sense at the time).
Everything is from Ral Partha Demonworld.

Next, I'll concentrate on more floor tiles - there should be enough minis for a game. Alas, I also need to disassemble and paint two Super Soakers - so little time! As always :)
